This pick still makes me smile. Telesco was at a place in the draft where he could go in several directions and he went with the best damn player available in the first round. He did not think about filling this immediate need or that, but rather took the swing to acquire that player who has proven to have the best resume ever coming out of college at his position and a player who has the promise of becoming an elite and dangerous offensive weapon.BoKnows81 wrote Sat Jun 15, 2024 5:17 am:Well to be fair, I think the only reason some of the media didn't "love" that we took him was bc we drafted Mayer in the 2nd last year.

Then there is this if it hasn't already been mentioned before, if we passed on him at 13 who's to say there wasn't a team (very likely) below us that would have given up some draft capital to move up and acquire him? For all we know even the chiefs may have had a deal in place with another team if he fell past us. Certainly the vikings, rams, steelers, dolphins, eagles and jaguars were in easy striking distance of a trade.signal wrote Sat Jun 15, 2024 5:51 am:This pick still makes me smile. You want to build a winner that will compete for years, then these are the types of picks you make. You don't go into the draft and think simply about what you need most the following year but what player may make the biggest impact over the next decade. Telesco did just that with this pick.
We have spoken a lot about how the new kickoff rule has given the ST coach a lot of extra work in preparation, well, I would suggest that the drafting of Bowers has done the same for Getsy. That one draft pick in the first has forced him to go back to his playbook and to begin rebuilding it because the Raiders have just acquired a versatile weapon that demands it. Yes, I think Bowers will transform the Raiders' offense. And the fact that they already have Mayer makes it all the more interesting.

From an interview I saw, Brock takes great pride in his ability to block, so I went back and looked. I know you guys see an offensive weapon from multiple positions on the field but the guy seems to be a complete TE in the vein of Ditka. He is an excellent blocker and if Getsy is shrewd he uses the guy lined up at the end of the line, and uses him there in a block and release role at times and when we are going to run off tackle. He can create an offense that utilizes him like they did with Tony Gonzales back in the day. Pretty excited to see the guy do his thing,BoJacksonRules » Sat Jun 15, 2024 5:17 pm
Agreed. But I would have been fine drafting B Thomas, that dude is going to be special.16 to 88 wrote Sat Jun 15, 2024 9:20 am:Then there is this if it hasn't already been mentioned before, if we passed on him at 13 who's to say there wasn't a team (very likely) below us that would have given up some draft capital to move up and acquire him? The very next skilled position that came off the board was WR Brian Thomas at #23 to the jaguars. I would venture to guess that none of the teams below us ever saw us drafting him at that spot. They probably all thought no way we are going to draft Bowers after just drafting Mayer. Zero reservations you could have heard a collective, UGH, from a handful of those teams war rooms when we did.

2nd and 3rd rounders are shit. Teams need to draft monsters and they're found in the top picks.tactician » Sat Jun 15, 2024 6:45 pm
2nd and 3rd rounders are not shit. Every GM in the NFL would strongly disagree with that statement.KillerRaider30 wrote Sat Jun 15, 2024 6:42 pm:2nd and 3rd rounders are shit. Teams need to draft monsters and they're found in the top picks.

Well, it looks like the rams were indeed one of the teams at least trying to snag Bowers...16 to 88 wrote Sat Jun 15, 2024 9:20 am:[Then there is this if it hasn't already been mentioned before, if we passed on him at 13 who's to say there wasn't a team (very likely) below us that would have given up some draft capital to move up and acquire him? Pretty sure most everyone feels the same. It's worth mentioning however this isn't what I was pointing out. On the day of the draft we now know of at least one team that wanted badly to acquire him and failed in doing so.rich72 wrote Mon Jun 17, 2024 2:18 am:Hope he lives up to the hype after all this hype.

What do you guys realistically think his numbers should look like after the season is over?crowbar » Tue Jun 18, 2024 1:11 pm
This team is going to run the ball 30+ times a game IMO.AngryRaidersFan wrote Tue Jun 18, 2024 1:05 pm:What do you guys realistically think his numbers should look like after the season is over?
