I don't think I am alone in thinking the Raiders got damn lucky when Bowers dropped to them. You never know how these things will play out but damn, I never thought the Raiders would ever get a chance at #13 to get an offensive weapon of his caliber.Jeevo wrote Tue Apr 30, 2024 12:37 pm:It's probably been posted before but I just read a bit that said the Rams were aggressively trying to trade into the top 10 to grab Bowers.

A little late to the party and just throwing in my two cents:cannon33 » Tue Apr 30, 2024 5:56 pm
Bowers sure was , number ONE player on my draft board .Roll Tide Raider wrote Tue Apr 30, 2024 4:59 pm:A little late to the party and just throwing in my two cents:
Brock Bowers, imo, was the best player in the draft. Runs like a WR, blocks extremely well, catches every damn thing, and he's the one of the hardest working players around. If there was a can't miss prospect, it was Brock Bowers.
He gives us a lot of flexibility on offense. We can go run heavy and still be dangerous in the passing game. I lOVE this pick.

Also, he’s a very mellow and calm guy, but plays like a monster. You watch his family reaction live and they looked very meh but the is another video of them all going crazy. Especially with his father who some people took as annoyed with the raiders taking him, but for me it looked like shock as nobody thought he’d come here. They’re all 49er fans yet they’ve all walking around the facility with raiders gear on.chucker wrote Tue Apr 30, 2024 6:09 am:A lack of visible excitement might also be tied to the fact that he was mostly projected to go top 10 and there's some pride and millions of dollars "lost" in going at 13. Not many projections had Bowers slipping past the Bears at 9 or the Jets at 10 and some had him going to the Chargers at 5.

I am absolutely stunned by the number of people who are panning our draft because our first rounder was, in their own assessment, the absolute best player on the board at a position that was not a need.Opoponax50 » Wed May 01, 2024 7:25 am
My misgivings about the pick aren't with the player, but with the staff's ability to utilize him in the most effective ways possible.chucker » Wed May 01, 2024 7:29 am
Absolutely. This is not a pick that should take Mayer off the field. IMO the best way to utilize Bowers is as a WR with him growing into the TE role. Part of the challenge and learning curve for TEs is that they need to essentially develop with two position groups - oline and WR.Opoponax50 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 7:25 am:My misgivings about the pick aren't with the player, but with the staff's ability to utilize him in the most effective ways possible.
If Getsy can use him like Deebo Samuel for example, then great, because that's how he's going to need to be utilized.
Whatever. We absolutely will find out.

When you think of the 1st round reaches the team has made over the past few years, Bowers is a slam dunk home run. the only argument is the need categorize and in that area I don't care. We may have our Kelce.Bram_Raider » Wed May 01, 2024 7:49 am
I know.chucker wrote Wed May 01, 2024 6:46 am:I am absolutely stunned by the number of people who are panning our draft because our first rounder was, in their own assessment, the absolute best player on the board at a position that was not a need.
I heard one yesterday where it was explained in depth and they even really liked Glaze in the 3rd. But didn't like our draft because we took Bowers, who they thought should have been a top 10 pick easy.
I know the early draft grades are just internet fodder, but it's pretty wild.

Draft pundits get too focused on team needs. It seems silly that these supposed experts would grade the Jets an A for picking him at 10 but grade the Raiders a B for taking him at 13. Maybe it’s me but if Bowers was the top player on their board it seems foolish to pick a player they had ranked lower just because they have more need at the positions. The draft after all is an annual event and if you pick BPA every year I would expect over time your roster would be far more talented than picking for need every year. It’s the only reason that I’m somewhat okay with the Falcons taking Penix. If he turns out to be a good QB, nobody in four or five years will care about the circumstances of how he was drafted.chucker wrote Wed May 01, 2024 6:46 am:I am absolutely stunned by the number of people who are panning our draft because our first rounder was, in their own assessment, the absolute best player on the board at a position that was not a need.

The Raiders need talent overall first and foremost...Bram_Raider wrote Wed May 01, 2024 7:49 am:I know.
These people always say "best player available".
The Raiders do that and they suddenly start saying, "But it wasn't a need."
So, which is it?
Take a reach, or best player?
GUYDON » Wed May 01, 2024 8:28 am
My only thing about that was, the best corner was also on the board, which was a need and would not have been a reach at 13. So you could have got a player of need, best at his position, and not reached.Bram_Raider wrote Wed May 01, 2024 7:49 am:I know.
