Hopefully Graham and AP not only believe they can mold some late round DBs into solid contributors, but that they actually can.GUYDON wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:28 am:My only thing about that was, the best corner was also on the board, which was a need and would not have been a reach at 13. So you could have got a player of need, best at his position, and not reached.
Other than that, Bowers was a great pick and gives us a lot of firepower and flexibility.
I love the play, wasnt big on the pick at tue time, but have definitely warmed to it.

problem is, the top corner was not really that great a corner, while the position itself ended up leading the draft as far as number selected (36) the vast majority of them are essentially special teams and taken in the lower rounds.GUYDON wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:28 am:My only thing about that was, the best corner was also on the board, which was a need and would not have been a reach at 13. The "top corner" didn't go til pick 22. I'm on record saying that there were no shut down corners in this draft and I still believe that. If we passed on Bowers for Quinyon or Terrion, it honestly would of ruined our draft.GUYDON wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:28 am:My only thing about that was, the best corner was also on the board, which was a need and would not have been a reach at 13. Here's a discussion of Bowers on Locked on Raiders pod with Ian Fitzsimmons talking in detail about Bowers and his mentality. If you don't want to get fired up, then don't listen. Fitz is on at 13:40signal » Wed May 01, 2024 10:54 am
Everything I have read and heard makes me think that Bowers is the type of player, given his insane machine like work ethic, that he could be a leader for the offense much like Crosby is for the D.chucker wrote Wed May 01, 2024 10:30 am:Here's a discussion of Bowers on Locked on Raiders pod with Ian Fitzsimmons talking in detail about Bowers and his mentality. The top corner covers about 15-20 feet horizontally and the number of yards to the end zone at most. He is limited to where his zone is or who his man is.RickRyb wrote Wed May 01, 2024 11:06 am:Who makes the 2024 Raiders better, Bowers or the "top" corner? It's Bowers!

CB is certainly more of an immediate need, but you still may be right. But we also aren't likely on the precipice of a SB this season so taking the better long term player is a much better answer than taking the need.RickRyb wrote Wed May 01, 2024 11:06 am:Who makes the 2024 Raiders better, Bowers or the "top" corner? I think we need a vet corner and I think its 50/50 we sign one. I mean we did pretty good last year and we lost only Amik who I liked. Amik is a dogBoKnows81 » Wed May 01, 2024 4:34 pm

I read one guy's grades for every team. He gave the Raiders entire draft a D because they took Bowers in the first round. Idiot. The fact that they got a #1 rated guard in the second more than balances out any criticism for doing BPA instead of Need/BPA. As someone wrote above, he may have been the only "lock" in the first round. Yes, Alt looks good but arguments could be made for drafting a different OT. Same with the CBs and even the QBs to some extent. Bowers was head and shoulders above the other TEs in this draft.BoKnows81 » Wed May 01, 2024 4:52 pm
I'm confused. You were 100% against Bowers. I remember distinctly. Change of heart?RunOverByHubbard wrote Wed May 01, 2024 4:41 pm:I read one guy's grades for every team. I hope the team runs the offense through him at some point bc I think he's that good.
