Its average, not every game. We lost 3 -0 last year, so its complicated. 4 days later we won 63 -21riseNraid09 wrote Thu May 02, 2024 4:55 pm:... I would imagine a lot if you tend to score more than your opponent. wtf kinda question is this? haha

Perfect example picking those two games. So if we average 31.5 points scored and 12 points allowed, we go .500.Rabid Raider wrote Fri May 03, 2024 5:51 am:Its average, not every game. We lost 3 -0 last year, so its complicated. 4 days later we won 63 -21
Last year we scored 18.7 per game and gave up 19.5, and finished 8-9
If you average score 24 and give up 20, you probably make the payoffs.

They didn’t get blown in almost every game…particularly when you consider the Bengals score was lopsided after late scores.chucker wrote Fri May 03, 2024 6:07 am:Perfect example picking those two games. So if we average 31.5 points scored and 12 points allowed, we go .500.
Last time we were a "playoff team" we gave up almost 4 points per game more than we scored and went 10-7. Unsustainable "success".
I don't think this team will get blown out in almost every loss like that 2021 team did though because this team has too many players and coaches with pride who won't give up on the day at the first sign of a struggle.

Sorry but you can use this or that game to try and make the stats appear not reliable, but those stats do count and every team has this game or that game that appear outliers. The stats are the stats and the 2021 team was below average in scoring and points allowed. And frankly, they looked exactly to me as the stats suggested...a below average team that simply limped into the playoffs.Be_Easy_25 wrote Sat May 04, 2024 6:25 am:They didn’t get blown in almost every game…particularly when you consider the Bengals score was lopsided after late scores.
They got blown out twice by the Chiefs 41-14 and 48-9 which made that stat you posted lopsided.
The success could have easily been sustained and even built upon. The Raiders just signed the worst HC in NFL history. Even he ended up winning 6 games the next season.

D will be improved (in all honesty all we need it to be is equal to the end of last season). I think the O will be better (coaching, development of AO, better QB room, better OL, more weapons). We really need Zuess to be like he was at the end of the season (was he fact or fiction). One HUGE thing that we have going for us is the potential to have a GOOD red zone offense (something we have not had in almost 2 decades). Bowers is going to be a big shot in the arm. Look at all the points we left on the field. Its borderline criminal.chucker » Sat May 04, 2024 6:47 am
I wish sites would show points scored and allowed for each of offense, defense and ST. It seems silly that when you look back at stats a pick six or fumble return TD is lumped in the same box with offensive TDs.signal » Sat May 04, 2024 6:55 am
Yes, as it is, it is very much a team stat and not strictly an offensive and defensive stat.chucker wrote Sat May 04, 2024 6:47 am:I wish sites would show points scored and allowed for each of offense, defense and ST. And as everyone knows during AP's games the defense was ranked #1 with 16 points allowed per game. And we just got Wilkins and some draftees.Amish Cabal » Sat May 04, 2024 7:23 am
I look for the Bolts to be much improved, the Chiefs take a small step back, Donks to be about the same. I predict 3-3 vs the division.16 to 88 » Sat May 04, 2024 7:47 am
Yeop. Definitely a ? mark. Just seems to me that when you take into account everything that transpired last year... Grappaolo at QB, McDaniels as HC, couldn't run the ball, couldn't pass protect, the transition from McD to AP and a first time OC paired with a rookie QB working out of a revised playbook to what we now have now going into this season it sure appears it's night and day.Amish Cabal wrote Sat May 04, 2024 7:23 am:I look for the Bolts to be much improved, the Chiefs take a small step back, Donks to be about the same. Raiders D should be much improved and I think they continue the upward trajectory shown last year. The addition of Wilkins and a push up the middle will make everyone better including LBs and DBs. Top 7.
Like Attyla mentioned earlier, the offense is a giant question mark. I have no idea how good or creative Getsy will be in getting the most out of this talented offense. The previous decades have conditioned me to expect disappointment. #20. And that would be a huge disappointment.

Along this vein, I wish pass plays were broken into 2 components. The yardage the ball traveled from QB to receiver and then receiving to tackle. A QB completes 2 passes of 2 yards that the receiver takes to the house and all of a sudden he has 150 passing yards. And a receiver catches a 60 yard pass in the endzone and he gets 60 receiving yards.chucker wrote Sat May 04, 2024 6:47 am:I wish sites would show points scored and allowed for each of offense, defense and ST. With advanced stats now you can see that - maybe not on a play by play basis, but on a seasonal or game basis those numbers are available. As an example look at Adams, who had 808 yards before catch and 336 yards after catch last season. O'Connell averaged 5.4 yards to the catch point, and 5.0 yards after the catch on his completions.RickRyb wrote Sat May 04, 2024 8:55 am:Along this vein, I wish pass plays were broken into 2 components. There is a time and a place for ball control.raiderjohn wrote Thu May 02, 2024 3:59 pm:For me, my thinking is that we will be a ball control offense, trying to win the time of possession. Just a way to protect the defense. Most defense first teams create that mentality with their offense. Mistake free ball, get it between the tackles, take what the defense is giving you, west coast offense, zone blocking scheme. I do not think we will be bad, but it's more of the team wide management.
