One anonymous executive said the following on the situation in Las Vegas: “The roster is a ways away. (Carroll’s) energy, self-belief, and the ability to build culture is going to have an immediate impact on a place that hasn’t had it for a long time. The wins might not be there for a couple of years. It won’t be three or four wins (per season), but probably seven or eight because of what he brings. I’d imagine they get a veteran quarterback right away, but do they have the time to take off without needing to get the players in place?”

I definitley no Carr fan, but McDickless took away the one good thing Carr had done throughout his career, which is making pre-snap reads. Of course Carr didn't have the sack to tell him to fuck off, but now I'm way off topic.

And that is the rub with bringing in a vet QB. With a roster like this, you'll get 6-8 wins and be in QB purgatory in terms of drafting one for the long haul. A franchise QB doesn't always have to be a top five pick. Kirk Cousins was a 4th round pick, TB was a 6th rounder, and Brock Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant. Scouting is important. Understanding how a talent fits with the team, on and off the field is important. Tons of guys with talent never made it to the 53 roster because they were drafted in the wrong spot to the wrong team with the wrong coach. I think Pete is good at evaluating how a guy can fit with his team and his coaching style. I don't recall many people here getting all hot and bothered over the McDaniels hire. Most of it was along the lines of hopeful but guarded. "Let's hope he's learned from his past fuckups, and really brings some good things here."
