General welfare was not intended to subsidize people's life style. That wasn't the intention of the Founding Fathers.NumbersForTheBreak wrote Thu May 24, 2018 9:18 am:Actually that is one of the main reasons our government exists and is a basic goal of every government. But how dare I spout things from the first two damn lines of that pesky Constitution. General welfare was probably a typo

I'm not worried more so what people are doing during the song but more or less what it's doing to the sport. I like sports to escape the daily nonsense of politics and now it's being shoved in my face there as well. I'd be OK w/ the anthem not being covered and we just get to what we paid to tune into: football.RunDMLee wrote Thu May 24, 2018 8:31 am:If your worried what someone does during a song that in reality means absolutely nothing then there is something wrong with you
People get offended by some dumb shit nowadays

You do realize the same preamble contains the phrase “blessings of liberty” right after the part you’re alluding to? And that the preamble is just that. It doesn’t contain actual laws it simply tells us what the founders intended. This is the same as people who use the New Colossus poem on the Statue of Liberty as having some significant in immigration.NumbersForTheBreak wrote Thu May 24, 2018 9:18 am:Actually that is the main reason our government exists and is a basic goal of every government. are you purposely ignoring the elephant the room and choosing to go on and on about things that should not matter when it is the fans who are spear-heading this issue?grosse gurke wrote Thu May 24, 2018 8:58 am:Not it isnt. The NFL is a business. Employees are employeed to increase sales...not decrease them. If you owned a real estate business and one of your sales people decided to wear a "fuck Trump" hat....freedom of expression right...the right to protest on the job...you good with that? If a customer wants to buy a million dollar house from you and he is wearing the same hat....that "fuck Trump" hat on him is a stunning accessory!
I guess I am not seeing any valid argument as to why an employee...as rich as they are....can dictate what he is allowed to do...or not allowed to do...on the job.
If kneeling for the anthem doubled viewership, increased sponsorship dollars, was celebrated by the media and around the world, and was overwhelmingly supported by all the fans of the NFL, would this even be an issue? I dont know about you but Im thinking owners would be ok with it.

I'm fully aware of not using the stock market as a barometer to the overall health of the economy. If you are suggesting it is not something that should be weighed though, I would call you incorrect.NumbersForTheBreak wrote Thu May 24, 2018 8:41 am:If you think the stock market indicates overall economic health you need to take a few classes on what the stock market actually is and take some general macroeconomic principles away from that.
Trump is a successful businessman in the same way Xaro from game of thrones was. If I tell everyone I’m wealthy and never show them the actual content of my vault, I can use the illusion of wealth to wield power without actually being wealthy. Because generally speaking, having most major banks refusing to give you additional loans because you’re too high a risk for defaulting, and doing pay to play with ZTE/UAE/Cohen/Mar-a-Lago indicates you aren’t already wealthy if you can be bought. And actually Xaro was self made, Trump inherited 500mil. So I guess not the same way. There’s a reason jokes about his finances were “off-limits” at his roast

Your last line is so spot on. Playing the victor is hard. You NEED to work and you NEED to work hard. Much harder than some do but the same opportunity is achievable. It's much, much, much, much, much easier to point the finger and blame someone else and people are lazy these days. Not surprised we see what we do as a result.CarrKnight wrote Thu May 24, 2018 8:50 am:Yup. Ben Carson grew up in poverty so his mother enrolled him for a library card.
Of course, someone will probably complain about overdue fines and how they are oppressive. Some people love being the victim.

The court has largely avoided this amendment. Here’s hoping the founders put it there to save us from the insanity of those that want words to mean whatever is convient to them.CarrKnight wrote Thu May 24, 2018 9:29 am:Here is an explanation of general welfare really means:

So has the government. The Founders were pretty clear on how the responsibilities were to be divided up but the Progressives in the 1910s started the ignore train.Willmark wrote Thu May 24, 2018 9:33 am:The court has largely avoided this amendment. It's the same thing with Rush Limbaugh, Ted Nugent and a lot of other showbiz patriots. They wave the flag and question the patriotism of others but when it was their turn to serve, they dodged their way out of it.signal wrote Thu May 24, 2018 9:13 am:What made me laugh is when the fuck nut had the temerity to call modern NFL players soft....but he was too soft to fight for his country when drafted.
