Malik McDowell is lucky the Cops weren't trigger happy....grosse gurke » Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:20 pm
He doesnt need help...he is acting like an entitled bag. If he is that mental he shouldnt be driving in the first place. He was just looking to pull famous card...and it didnt work.mad stork 83 » Thu Jul 11, 2019 8:59 am
The cop was as much of an asshole as the victim but proper procedure is to get the ticket and go to court. I don't blame him for wanting someone else there. Police do kill lots of people. If he tried to play that card, I didn't hear it.grosse gurke wrote Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:20 pm:He doesnt need help...he is acting like an entitled bag. Clients with mental illness can drive cars, it's not as though they are going out and running over people at an alarming rate, say like those driving while under the influence of alcohol...grosse gurke wrote Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:20 pm:He doesnt need help...he is acting like an entitled bag. According to the strict criteria of the DSM, everybody has a mental illness. Mental health diagnostics is quackery.grosse gurke wrote Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:20 pm:He doesnt need help...he is acting like an entitled bag. I would have called for backup when Malik insisted on seeing a supervisor and told him that the supervisor was on the way. When backup arrived, I would have introduced them as the supervisor. When he went in the store, I would have taken the car keys, stood at the door and waited for the backup. This kid was drunk and/or high--he was not going to listen to that cop. Being a black kid who grew up in the Detroit area, he was probably taught to ask for a supervisor if a cop ever stops him. I wonder if the cop may have wondered if he was dealing with a pro athlete, perhaps a Detroit Lion, which may have influenced his decisions. (Yes, all of this easy for me to say after watching a video. Of course, if he produces a weapon, response is totally different. Cops have a difficult job and I appreciate there are people who want to do the job.)mad stork 83 » Fri Jul 12, 2019 4:37 am
Why would anyone draw a weapon when there were no signs of violence? That would be moronic imo.16 to 88 wrote Thu Jul 11, 2019 4:01 pm:Yeah.
Definitely not an expert but I believe what I see was a couple of mistakes in that video and both by the officer? Again, not an expert but it looks to me he made a few tactical errors.
Officer ordered him to "have a seat in your car". Why would you do that? Your going to lost sight of him and who is to say he doesn't have a weapon in there?
Hard to tell from the camera angle but the moment he went back into his car and the officer lost sight of him I would have drawn my weapon and got into a defensive position. Instructed him to come out with his hands in the air and if he didn't wait for back up. He has zero idea when he lost sight of him if he was going for a weapon in the car.
Once he tased him and saw it was in-effective he should have created space immediately and drawn his weapon. They had already tussled McDowell wasn't compling. Seems to me if he had created space at that moment, drew his weapon then he's in a very favorable position. McDowell can't grab it and would now he would be shot before he could get to the officer.
This alone may have FINALLY brought compliance to the situation. If not and McDowell keeps coming then you simply, and regrettably shoot him. No cop should have to go through what could have possibly been a serious injury from a guy that big because of complete and utter non-compliance.
I knew a cop that went to check on a homeless person and right as he got in arms reach the guy swung and hit him so fast and so violently that it broke his jaw his head hit the pavement and he's been dealing with strokes ever since. His superiors might even argue to him that by not putting an end to the situation that he put his other fellow officers in jeopardy...

IMHO, that would be a tactical error as well.Atlasffa wrote Thu Jul 11, 2019 8:38 pm:I would have called for backup when Malik insisted on seeing a supervisor and told him that the supervisor was on the way. Bingo. This kid was drunk and/or high--he was not going to listen to that cop.

Who made the first violent move? What I saw was him ask for a supervisor. I didn't see any need for aggression on the part of the Cop because there wasn't any aggression. I didn't see the need to take him. He was sitting and not a threat. Sometimes cops overreact. This is one of those instances. I will watch a 3rd time. Maybe I will notice something that substantiates your perception.16 to 88 wrote Fri Jul 12, 2019 5:39 am:Yeah, that's it stork. NO signs of violence whatsoever.
Except of course, from the 1:59 mark of the video all the way to the 4:11 mark when it took 4 cops to handcuff him and haul him out of a store that looked like a hurricane hit it after a 2 minute fight all caught on video.
You do realize the cameras don't lie, don't you? You do realize other people can see the fight that ensued don't you? You do realize people read your non-sensical postS throughout this forum don't you? This is just one tiny example in a long line of examples.
You know stork. Sometimes, not often, you do bring some thought provoking stuff on this forum I will have to admit to it. But it seems most of the time it's absolutely utter ridiculousness such as this that completely undermines yourself and you come off as nothing more than somebody trolling in an attempt to set them off.
Oh well...
