Petty bragging rights, and Carr is a petty guy.KillingJoke wrote Fri Feb 03, 2023 4:24 pm:If teams are willing to trade for Carr that means they are willing to pay that contract. Why would Carr accept a trade and essentially help the raiders when he could agree to the same contract with whatever team was willing to trade for him?

Raiders still don't have to cut him.KillingJoke wrote Fri Feb 03, 2023 4:24 pm:If teams are willing to trade for Carr that means they are willing to pay that contract. You answered your own question. If there are teams willing to trade for him why would you take a chance on him going to another team?KillingJoke wrote Fri Feb 03, 2023 4:24 pm:If teams are willing to trade for Carr that means they are willing to pay that contract. The current Carr contract comparatively, has very little guaranteed money which is why despite the high total salary nos. teams are interested in Carr. They can always rework the contract to suit their cap. If Carr is an FA, his agent would want much higher guaranteed money compared to the current contract. In addition, there may be competition for his services. GMs prefer a sure thing as opposed to rolling the dice. Compensation-wise, I see a 2nd or a 3rd round draft pick. I don't see anybody paying more than that for Carr. Conversely, if Carr is an FA, sure Raiders get nothing in return but it is also possible that Carr won't get the total salary that is in his current contract & it is very likely that he will get a larger guaranteed salary but not the total compensation.KillingJoke wrote Fri Feb 03, 2023 4:24 pm:If teams are willing to trade for Carr that means they are willing to pay that contract. I think there's a pride element as well. Carr would rather be traded than cut like some 3rd string scrub. A team willing to trade a high round pick for Carr is essentially saying to him they have confidence in him. As well, he can always renegotiate his contract, and as mentioned before, just because he has a good conversation with a team in trade talks, doesn't mean he'll choose them in free agency. If a team really wants him, they'd be wise to trade.KillingJoke wrote Fri Feb 03, 2023 4:24 pm:If teams are willing to trade for Carr that means they are willing to pay that contract. I don’t care if you hate Carr, love Carr, or anything in between - Carr has trade value.GoodTimeCharlie » Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:40 pm

What may not be trade-able is his contract. If this front office fails to get anything for Carr, it’s another (and perhaps their biggest) blunder.
Derek Carr will start week 1 for an NFL team. His contract, proposed and agreed to by this front office, is the issue. This is on them.
Last off-season, Jarrett Stidham had trade value. Tyree Gillespie had trade value. Trayvon Mullen and Bryan Edwards had trade value. Releasing a starting QB for nothing would be a gaffe this front office has to answer for.

He has a no trade clause and his older brothers are the brains of the operation. They control that big head goof ball like a puppet.DrDUne wrote Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:30 pm:I don’t care if you hate Carr, love Carr, or anything in between - Carr has trade value.

I hear you - but it takes two to tango, and this front office agreed to the contract that is keeping teams at bay.rich72 wrote Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:47 pm:He has a no trade clause and his older brothers are the brains of the operation. They control that big head goof ball like a puppet.

If they leave it up to him to say "this is the place" first, the destination team holds the cards.DrDUne wrote Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:54 pm:I hear you - but it takes two to tango, and this front office agreed to the contract that is keeping teams at bay.
