For a single season that is.

Ask this question and most people will say for a single season one of the following:

1985 Bears
2000 Ravens
2013 Seahawks
2015 Broncos
1976 Steelers

But here’s the deal, statistically? For a single season? It’s (likely) one you’ve never heard of: the 1977 Falcons aka the “Grits Blitz”. This defense led to the 46 Defense of the Bears. That alone says something.

I was way too young to see this so I’d be interested to hear what the older Gen who actually saw them play thinks. Remember this is for a SINGLE season.

I have heard of this defense before.

It was impressive and had a great nickname.

Best defense is like what best WR or QB ever. I judge by each era.

I would've said the 85 Bears. I don't remember the Atlanta D, probably because back then, they were rather irrelevant, to me at least.

I learned a thing or two from this link. Did you know the 86 Bears D allowed fewer points than the 85 D? I didn't.
