An inside look at how the new rules will workFLORIDARAYDAH » Thu Feb 16, 2023 1:51 pm
Don't care for the timer or the limit of times a pitcher can step off. Just leave the game alone IMOSold My Soul » Thu Feb 16, 2023 7:59 pm
They want to speed up the game. Been looking at ways to do it for awhile now. Biggest fans complaint is that the games are too long.Attyla » Fri Feb 17, 2023 11:25 am
the clock is going to be an issue, but the shift rules are probably gonna change the results more. I am a shift guy, I think it makes guys learn how to actually hit the ball rather than just crank it to their sweet spot. I really think MLB is making a mistake there.Sold My Soul » Fri Feb 17, 2023 12:32 pm
The shift isn't all that common. The workaround would be positioning the outfielders to the designated shift side.Attyla » Sat Feb 18, 2023 10:34 am
last year 31% of the time vs lefties. Slightly less against righties. The Rays and Dodgers lead the field in this but shifts were up significantly across the league.Sold My Soul wrote Fri Feb 17, 2023 12:32 pm:The shift isn't all that common. Won't matter anyway, Baseball Savant and Fangraph data says it's a wash when utilized.Attyla » Sat Feb 18, 2023 2:16 pm
watch the pull hitters batting averages go up. Also watch more pull hitters scoring averages go up. the pitch clock is going to be a factor but the shift works and without the shift, poor hitters are going to affect the games significantly more.Sold My Soul wrote Sat Feb 18, 2023 10:54 am:Won't matter anyway, Baseball Savant and Fangraph data says it's a wash when utilized.

it is, but a lot of those guys were never actually taught how to hit so they fail to get it down and keep it inbounds successfully. And both the catcher and pitcher are going to watch for that.Xramfan wrote Mon Feb 20, 2023 10:16 am:Always thought the easiest way to stop the shift was to lay a couple of bunts down the uncovered side of the infield.

Watched quite a few Dodger games last year and the Giants actually beat the Dodger shift more than once laying down good bunts. I wish more players would work on those skills.Attyla wrote Mon Feb 20, 2023 11:25 am:it is, but a lot of those guys were never actually taught how to hit so they fail to get it down and keep it inbounds successfully. Agreed, they also should have never added the Universal DH rule and runner on 2nd to start extra innings.Attyla wrote Fri Feb 17, 2023 11:25 am:the clock is going to be an issue, but the shift rules are probably gonna change the results more. The DH rule was a change that I expected and was surprised it took so long. I really don't have much of an issue with it. I am a purist with baseball and actually have more of an issue with having a DH at all. The history of baseball was that pitchers took at bats. The AL changing that back in the day does very little in my mind to make the game better. This new extra innings thing though? It really stinks in my mind.Sonic Raider wrote Mon Feb 20, 2023 5:48 pm:Agreed, they also should have never added the Universal DH rule and runner on 2nd to start extra innings.
