Truth be told, when we got away from amateur athletes and went all in on professional athletes, I lost interest. Wife is 100% into everything especially the opening night and closing ceremonies. I'm not watching yet but my wife is already saying "WTF" regarding the opening ceremonies......and she lived in France for well over a decade and knows the language, history and culture.

Granted I'm on vacation with my family right now, but I've never have had any interest in the opening ceremonies and didn't watch them. I've seen bits of previous openings, though, and I can imagine. They seem to have become some kind of abstract art contest. More power to those that enjoy it, but I'm only interested in the sports.

I agree to a certain degree about pro vs amateur, but the premier Olympic sports (track, swimming, gymnastics, etc.) have always been a grey area between the two. Sports like basketball were always better, easily followed, and had more important championships at the professional level. My biggest gripe is all the new sports that got thrown in over the years. Surfing? I love it, but not in the Olympics.

The one sport I really miss is boxing. Maybe it's still there, but if it is, it's not like it used to be. Olympic boxing used to be like college football where you could see all of the future stars get the first major exposure.

In the past the opening ceremonies were always about pageantry and a "taste" of the host country and their history and culture. Compare below to the shit sandwich France served up. Speaking of shit sandwiches, France had to order 1000s of pounds of beef and eggs, as they tried to force the Olympians to eat vegan food and fake meat, clearly the woke Olympics have arrived.

The welcoming ceremony in China was really cool as well.

I have issues with transgender females competing with biological females, but that doesn't seem to be the case here, at least with Khelif, who has got the most attention. She was listed as female on her birth certificate, and it appears that the campaign against her started with Russian psyops.

In the actual sporting competitions, we're doing pretty damn well. At the moment, we have a dominating lead in total medals, and lead in all three metal categories. Love that!

Personally my favorite combat sport is the oldest one, the wrestling. Great athletes, amazing techinque, clear rules
Boxing is great too but something needs to change

Good call! There were some good matches vs the Soviets back in the day. Rulon Gardner's win in 2000 was awesome. We had a couple of gold medalists (the Schultz brothers) come out my high school, but they graduated the year before I got there. Same high school that produced Devante Adams.
