Back in the day I remember an article that came out that stated Barney Miller was deemed the most realistic detective show on TV.Attyla wrote Sun Feb 21, 2021 6:00 pm:Barney Miller, damn that was some good TV

most think of Peter Falk as Columbo or the grandfather in the Princess Bride. His movie career was astoundingly good and he was a fantastic character actor. Really one of the first big names to embrace TV as a medium that was here to stay.

Your comment about embracing television reminds me of a section from David Niven's autobiography where he was a partner in a tv company in the 50s having recognised that was the future.Attyla wrote Mon Feb 22, 2021 4:18 am:most think of Peter Falk as Columbo or the grandfather in the Princess Bride. few admired David Niven like I did. I know many think of him as the guy in Around the World in 80 Days or the Pink Panther movies but he was really quite the accomplished as a writer and a bit of a badass during WWIIDiesis wrote Mon Feb 22, 2021 9:32 am:Your comment about embracing television reminds me of a section from David Niven's autobiography where he was a partner in a tv company in the 50s having recognised that was the future.
The book, The Moon's a Balloon and his follow up about tales from the golden age of Hollywood, Bring on the Empty Horses, are great reads. The former is one of the few books that have made me laugh out loud when reading it.

yea, I was gonna go that route but figured everyone would. I guess like a lot of my generation, I see those shows as a microcosm of the world as I saw it at that time. as such, I wanted to pick the show that had a significance historically for that particular time. If I were going soley on my tastes, I would have mentioned Quark as a show in the 70's, which I found astoundingly fun. But for the period, is a blip on the radar. My personal taste in TV can be a bit obscure.chucker wrote Wed Feb 24, 2021 5:47 am:I did not go for what was "important", I just chose what I liked. Alfalfa got just one wrong - Simon and Simon was good at the time, but Married with Children is classic.
