You cannot assume that Carr, who has a losing record in 4 of his 5 seasons, is worth more than Tyrod Taylor.

One could look at Carr and assess him as an overpaid loser who isn't really worth all that much in trade compensation.
You are the only poster who says Carr is worse than Taylor.

Let me rephrase the argument. Fans are po'ed at Reggie because some say he always got fleeced when he did a trade. Now... fans expect Mayock to do better. The going rate for a starting QB is a 1st round pick PLUS whatever else you can get. So... now, you come along... and say that Carr is worth less than Taylor. Maybe he is - maybe he isn't. But Carr is a starter while Taylor is headed out of town. Taylor was never a legitimate starting QB, and had a very spotty history. Carr, aside from 2 games, has started every other game of his career. Not at all like Taylor.

I find the board to be very hypocritical whenever certain players are involved. If Mayock trades Carr, he damn well better get a 1st round pick PLUS something more in a trade. Since Reggie is gone, you can argue that Reggie would have taken a 3rd round pick for Carr knowing that you can't be proven wrong by him.

If you want to really be funny, claim that you'd trade Carr for a 3rd and franchise tag Cook for 8.5 million dollars to bring him back 'on the cheap'. :seenoevil:

Carr is still a starting level QB in this league, a 1st this year or next and player won't be out of the question for a team in need. (Jacksonville, Giant,or maybe even the Raven)..

Starting level qb? And more. I would say he is better then some qb's that got into the playoffs this season and for many teams he'd be an instant upgrade.

The odds of landing a Carr level qb or better with a mid or late 1st round pick is very low. Looking back at the draft starting from the draft he was picked there is only 1 qb taken outside the first 3 picks that is an upgrade over Carr (Mahomes).

A QB heading into his 6th year is not a starting level QB. He's a seasoned pro at this stage of the game and still making rookie mistakes is unacceptable. When you have a former head coach and former QB's make those same observations you know he's got serious deficiencies!

Hard to really be seasoned when you have been through as many OC changes as he has, not to mention the lack of time to throw the ball last year. I still stand by my statement that he is well above average when he is comfortable in the pocket( see2016). Wont surprise me a bit if someone offers more than a 1st for him.

We’ve all seen 2016. He was not above avg but merely avg statistically. This is using actual numbers and facts that have been posted not revisionist history. Even though he’s a better passer from a clean pocket what makes you think he will improve when things aren’t perfect or aren’t going his way. These are things super bowl winning QBs do. Derek can not make something out of nothing.

I used to think the same thing regarding Carr, but after this season he still has some very poor / bad habits that have nothing to do with the system and everything to do with his abilities.

Yes when you have so many close game wins on a consistently struggling team.

The QB play was average as linked before.

Another fan who thinks statistics mean more than leadership. In 2016 Carr was a fantastic leader at the most important position on the field. Winning close games in the last minutes of the game is the reason everyone here thinks K Stabler belongs in the hall of fame. Not sure Carr will ever return to be the type of QB he showed then, but to say that it was luck and voodoo is what I would consider revisionist. Not many fans on this board that weren't sniffing his jock that season. I remember people wanting to put a hit out on the coach for having him in at the end of that Colts game.

A starting caliber QB just coming into his prime is worth a first round pick and probably a third

we just have to prove Carr is a starting caliber QB

Personally I thought Carr was well above average in 2016, both statistically and with the eyeball test. He just hasn't looked much like that guy since 2016, and so I have little confidence that he'll return to that. 2016 feels like a long time ago, and in NFL terms it really was - it's long gone.
