When Mark received the keys to the Raiders everybody told him " you need to hire a professional GM".Sir Raider Duck, OMS » Mon Nov 07, 2022 7:41 am
Bad idea. What if some incompetent like Dan Snyder takes over?Attyla wrote Mon Nov 07, 2022 7:25 am:the turnip could sell the team?

"what if" is the same mentality that keeps us from fixing the QB position. What if we get worse? If Mark holds onto the team, are we destined for another 10 years of the same? To me it becomes unacceptable to not take risks that change the culture and direction of the team. At this point, waht do we have to lose?Sir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Mon Nov 07, 2022 7:41 am:Bad idea. Or what if a corporation buys the Raiders, then decides to make the logo eyepatch pink to appeal to women, or changes the logo to "Petey the Pirate" because their focus groups think kids will buy the new merch, etc?
Say what you will about Mark, but he at least loves the Raiders and respects the legacy. Who knows what a new owner would do? Could be good, could be a disaster.

The difference is that Mark is not making football decisions. He's hiring people to do that. Dave Ziegler looked like a good hire at the time, and his drafting has been excellent even if his FA signings have been hit (Hollins) and miss (Jones).Attyla wrote Mon Nov 07, 2022 7:55 am:"what if" is the same mentality that keeps us from fixing the QB position. The lack of accountability that permeates this franchise comes from the top. Mark is just happy to have people like Gruden and McDaniels come in, promise him the world and take the football decisions off his hands. He's a fan at the end of the day. Until ownership changes, I don't think we'll see a paradigm shift in this regard.Attyla » Mon Nov 07, 2022 8:02 am
He has meddled in football decisions his entire time. I do not trust him to keep his fingers out of the cookie jar. Nothing in his history suggests he cannot resistSir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Mon Nov 07, 2022 7:59 am:The difference is that Mark is not making football decisions. He's hiring people to do that. If Ziegler can build a winning team, nobody will care who the owner is.

Ziegler was thought of pretty highly in the league. I doubt he would have taken the job without a promise, in writing, that he gets 100% control of football matters. Now Mark may have hired him with a verbal promise to give Carr one last shot this year, but I firmly believe Ziegler will be free to do what he wants this offseason.Attyla wrote Mon Nov 07, 2022 8:02 am:He has meddled in football decisions his entire time. To me this isn't a Mark thing unless there is something going on with the league still with Davis's. He's tried several tactics, each have enough logic in them for me to be satisfied. Raiders are making money and spending, it's not a Mark issue to me.Sea of Hands » Mon Nov 07, 2022 8:12 am
Raider Fans wanted a GM that is not also the owner, which Al was. Al was both. Now he is gone and they got their wish. They wanted the Raiders to follow the path of successful teams and hire their leaders. They got their wish. And yet we are still in a state of disarray on the field.Sir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Mon Nov 07, 2022 8:04 am:Ziegler was thought of pretty highly in the league. guess we shall see. Well, it’s undeniable that the results with Mark Davis are better than Al Davis 2003-2011. The problem is that it’s still not good enough!Sea of Hands wrote Mon Nov 07, 2022 8:12 am:Raider Fans wanted a GM that is not also the owner, which Al was. Al was both. Mark is doing what the fans wanted. How does he get the results the fans want? He has to find the right QB/Head Coach Combination by hiring people who understand the game as it relates to this relationship...

Agreed. When Al was successful, the game was much different. You could build a winner by focusing on the total team including depth. The game is much simpler these days. See my edit above.VEfreak wrote Mon Nov 07, 2022 8:35 am:Well, it’s undeniable that the results with Mark Davis are better than Al Davis 2003-2011. The problem is that it’s still not good enough!
