If Reggie picked the next HC after DA it was going to be Tony Sparano - he was Reggie's preference for HC and Mark overruled him.Pantyraider wrote Mon Sep 25, 2023 6:50 am:10 years ago Mark hired Reggie Mckenzie and proclaimed "Reggie is in charge of football, he's my guy". What would have happened had Mark stuck with Reggie? My guess is that DA still would have been fired, but instead of Mark's choice of JDR, Reggie likely would have selected someone else. And the move to a new stadium would have fortified the Raiders finances so that Reggie could have more ammunition to produce a good Raiders team.
I am not saying Reggie is a great GM, but my guess is that had Mark stuck with him the Raiders team would be significantly better than they are now. Had Mark stuck with Reggie how do you think the Raiders would have performed the past 7 or 8 years ?

All I know or care about is McKenzie got the team to the playoffs in 4 yearsAttyla » Tue Sep 26, 2023 3:59 am
It is all history now. The Head Turnip in Charge did what he did and we all payed the price. It is not even worth speculating on now. Mark made the next two coaching hires. There is no guessing what Reggie would have done. Here is how bad it is in Raiderland. I was at the Nashville draft. I was on the stage for the first round. Every team got swag bags from their organizations out to the fans on the stage. I saw guys getting all kinds of cool stuff. Really nice team gear and shit. I got a generic Raider shirt and toothpaste and a toothbrush, a few bits of candy that looked like he raided the bottom of the halloween bag and that was about it. A fucking toothbrush? Other fans were pulling out logo balls and polo's and shit and I got a toothbrush. Who does that? Oh right, the Turnip. Everything flows from the top down. We suck as an organization because the owner sucks.toobscruiser » Tue Sep 26, 2023 4:43 am
McKenzie was not very good at drafting, but he was still better at it than the two regimes that followed himDark Horse » Tue Sep 26, 2023 5:22 am
Reggie loved FA's and draft picks with broken necks and chests and stuffRaider727 » Tue Sep 26, 2023 5:59 am

Looking back, the worst thing that happened to Mark was Gruden accepting the job. JDR wasn’t perfect but he was the best head coach the team had since Gruden V1. The team was at least respectable during most of his tenure and new offensive and defensive coordinators for 2018 may have got the team back on track.Dark Horse » Tue Sep 26, 2023 7:34 am
I don't buy that Jack wasn't getting fired were it not for Gruden. You can thank ya boy Lil Derk for that.heavyD wrote Tue Sep 26, 2023 6:54 am:Looking back, the worst thing that happened to Mark was Gruden accepting the job. He completely lost that locker room after the Washington game. He also allowed the coaching staff to switch to a ZBS from a power scheme which didn't fit our personnel at all (massive shocker in Raiderland). However, you're probably right that he's the best coach we've had in 10 years.JTRaider wrote Tue Sep 26, 2023 6:37 am:I sometimes think I would take Del Rio back, no one from that poisoned '17 squad is still here (I believe) and he was imo the best of the last three.
Pretty sure that ship sailed though.

JDR was an excellent motivator but his coordinator hires (an important aspect for any HC) sucked. Musgrave was the best of the three, and he was average at best (the man can build a great offense suited to his players and teach that offense very well, but is just TERRIBLE at in-game adjustments).heavyD wrote Tue Sep 26, 2023 6:54 am:Looking back, the worst thing that happened to Mark was Gruden accepting the job. Come to think of it, it was when Musgrave left that we switched to the ZBS and then led to Tice retiring with his famous "Player's don't want to be coached" comments. That scheme change destroyed our o-lineSir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:25 am:JDR was an excellent motivator but his coordinator hires (an important aspect for any HC) sucked. Downing and KNJ were both awful, and he stuck with KNJ waaaaay too long.
