It was athletic, for sure. There are some things that pop out on that clip, like the one-handed reach back and then palming the ball on the way to end zone. That said, it was outstanding more for its intelligence than its athleticism. He read that play so well that he actually overran jumping the route. Not sure if I've ever seen that before.Coach Pappy wrote Fri Dec 15, 2023 6:55 pm:Maybe the most athletic int in the history of the game

Give credit to PG , they scouted that play well:chucker » Sat Dec 16, 2023 6:41 am
Jones' pick was great but can't compare to a SB play by Squirek. That play by Squirek took a solid lead to an almost insurmountable one as the game went to the half. I have no idea why they would have been passing the ball at that point with almost no time left deep in their own end but I'm happy they did.raiderboyron » Sat Dec 16, 2023 8:38 am
There was a conflict in who should have been named MVP but Plunkett won it for SBXVALLRAIDERWORLD21 wrote Sat Dec 16, 2023 12:31 am:The significance of Jones is pick is not only the athleticism of the play, it set the record for most Raider points in franchise history. Considering the storied past that we've clung to as a fanbase, even during the last two decades, to achieve the greatest point total on a play like that is symbolic of the teams roots and epitomizes Raider mystique. We put it on the Chargers for 63, and in Grand fashion. I'm thinking the great Raider CBs, Hayes, Brown, Woodson, Haynes, to name a few, would approve.
In regards to game significance, I've given creedence to Squireks pic, and yes I know Raiders coaches called that out and predicted As well, Willie Browns pic 6 is right up there cementing the teams first SB victory, and I've acknowledged that one too in previous posts.
Now if you're talking just game interceptions significance, Mike Davis Red Right 88 play may be the most significant as that literally won the game. As well, and this has yet to be mentioned, are Rod Martin’s three picks in SB XV. He was named MVP and we don't win SB XV without him.

Yeah, why Theisman threw that screen with 20 seconds to go in the half is one of the mysteries of the universe we may never know. I mean it’s known they thought they could strike lighting twice on a play that worked earlier in the season but the chances of getting a 90 yard TD were low. It was high risk gamble on Theismans part and Squirek was the house..always wins.chucker wrote Sat Dec 16, 2023 6:41 am:Jones' pick was great but can't compare to a SB play by Squirek. Yeah no doubt Plunkett was the man but the defense, led by Martins three pics, effectively shut Jaworski down. As they say, defense wins championships.raiderboyron wrote Sat Dec 16, 2023 8:38 am:There was a conflict in who should have been named MVP but Plunkett won it for SBXV

It was a really stupid call by the Skins. Still think the Davis pick in red right 88 was the biggest. Browns were a short field goal from the win, admittedly in a hurricane, but still.chucker wrote Sat Dec 16, 2023 6:41 am:Jones' pick was great but can't compare to a SB play by Squirek. Yeah Redskins choice to throw a screen there is right up there with Pete Carrol choosing not let Lynch barrel it in from the 2 yard line. Ironically which led to another memorable NFL pick, albeit not for the Raiders, still an epic play by a Malcolm Brown, which led me to hate Brady even more.Jeevo wrote Sat Dec 16, 2023 9:57 am:It was a really stupid call by the Skins. As for Red Right 88, Sam Rutigliano opted to go for it because his kicker had missed one earlier due to the high winds, This is when God was a Raider fan. Al and Mark must have done something to piss him off since then Btw, I actually met Mike Davis in Oakland at a game when he was signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. I told him that was one of the finest memories of my childhood watching him make that play. His face beamed, he signed my cap with Red Right 88. it was a great moment.
