I think A LOT depends on how the rest of this year unfolds, particularly for Carr.NoClapsPlease wrote Tue Oct 19, 2021 9:56 pm:Carr needs to be extended.
I don’t know why the reset button is so popular on here. The last time we had an uncontested starter was Gannon - that was 17 years ago. Plugging in QBs didn’t work back then and it won’t now. Right now, you only replace Carr with an elite QB. That’s the reality right now. In my mind, he’s nearing elite status and it’s coming together for him. 7 years and countless play callers, it’s not a coincidence he’s turning it on in his 4th year under the same system.

Right 25+ Yards is exactly what it says.Lamonica_D wrote Tue Oct 19, 2021 3:22 pm:25+ yards or more.
This is common knowledge.

Can't remember which thread it was, but a few weeks ago before Gruden was forced to resign, I predicted Carr would probably be offered around 35M a year if he continues to play top 10 QB ball. I was thinking 4yr-140M. That would be cool if he was like 'nah, 4yr 100M is enough' but I wouldn't count on that. It won't be long before all top 15 QB's are making 30M+ a year. Regardless, definitely wait until this season is over before even considering an extension. We don't even know who our HC, GM, etc. will be.Lamonica_D » Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:42 am
We extend him just based on him being a Raider icon.Riff Majestic » Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:49 am
I could've swore you were acting like he would take way less than 35M a year, now it's a steal...anyway, a lot of folks earlier in this thread were acting like anything over 30M is way too much.Lamonica_D wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:42 am:We extend him just based on him being a Raider icon.
I'm done with QB carousel. I like what we have going.
Carr will give hometown discount and Raiders won't insult him.
35m a year is a steal.

He would take less but you don't want to insult him either.Riff Majestic wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:49 am:I could've swore you were acting like he would take way less than 35M a year, now it's a steal...anyway, a lot of folks earlier in this thread were acting like anything over 30M is way too much.

Every contract has risk of the player underperforming. If the Raiders won the Super Bowl this year, the absolute minimum Carr would expect would be $40 million, and the Raiders would be more than happy to pay that price.CWood24 wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 7:16 am:Carr is in the Goff to Ryan range & not a penny more there is no way unless we all of a sudden win a SB this year he should be getting 40 mil even then it is a risk of it being an outlier season

What's he going to do if we don't? Pout like Rodgers then go out and play like him? Whatever to the first part and yes to the second part, sir!Raider87 wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 2:01 pm:He's on the books for 19.8 million in 2022, his last year under contract.
We could extend him, but i also don't see any emergency to extend him.

Just because the last guy got 40 mil does not mean you get it that is elite contender money, we don't even have to worry about losing him in free agency he has already said he wont play anywhere else so we can play around thatAqua » Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:53 am
Exactly correct. Keeping Carr hungry is a good sense plan.SkullCrusher wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 2:18 pm:What's he going to do if we don't? Pout like Rodgers then go out and play like him? Whatever to the first part and yes to the second part, sir!

For me the discussion is largely pointless (At this juncture). The numbers being referenced are very rough approximations, who knows what exactly the market will be when the time comes for an extension. In addition, we have little to no cap liabilities for 2023 at the moment, with nearly half of the projected cap in available space, and 9 of our 22 starters on the books still. There's so much that can happen between now and January, let alone 2023 that could effect how one would view a Derek Carr extension. Personally I'm focused on Philly.
