I may be in the minority, but I like a battle between Jermaine,Thayer, and Herron.Attyla wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 11:46 am:first, welcome back, I was getting close to buying a milk carton.
Second, not a terrible plan, but I think if you can get a serviceable OT in FA (since we have the money) you can just hit defense hard with the picks. We have a lot of day three stuff so we can move those picks around to climb the board.

That whole right side is a problem and seems like it has been for decades. I do think that we're a bit better off at OG and it would be easier to find someone in FA to fit that spot to go along with a stud kid like we did on the left with Miller and Cog.HesterLayes wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 12:08 pm:I may be in the minority, but I like a battle between Jermaine,Thayer, and Herron.
Guard play is what we need.

Rodgers is pipe. The Pack gave him a ridiculous contract and they are almost forced to play him (trading him or his retirement would hurt them financially). Do we take a sniff? I doubt it and TBH I would be totally against it (both in terms of draft capital and cap space). We have to keep in mind the fact that we have to appease Adams (not saying bringing Rodgers on board because he left him). Adams will want (and deserves) as good a player that we could possibly get for NEXT year. He will want real options and not just a rookie or a question mark (Stidham) behind center. I think the logical step for us is to take a flier on Baker. He will not break the bank and will not cost us anything in a trade. After the 2020 season, the Browns thought they had their franchise QB. Baker had a good year. He guided those scrubs to the playoffs. He took care of the ball (having an excellent TD to Int ratio). What I was more impressed with was his average air yards per completion which was the 2nd highest in the league. He will cost MUCH less than Carr and would give us MORE production (bar is low). I think he would make us as competitive as possible and allow us to go almost full D with the draft and FA. There really is no downside. Worst case is that we would still be in this position next season and would have a chance to draft a QB in what appears to be a draft class with better quality and quantity at the position. For me, its Baker or bust. Fuck Jimmy, Rodgers, and the rest of the scrubs and journeymen in the league.Jeevo » Thu Feb 02, 2023 12:33 pm
Yeah, I see your points but just disagree. I think both Denver and TB were closer than we are and weren't they both free agents?DrDUne wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 10:31 am:It's what the Buccaneers did in 2019 . Prior to signing the 42 year old Brady, they had gone 5-11, 5-11, and 7-9. He then led them to a Super Bowl victory in 2020 and 3 consecutive playoffs.
They're paying for it now, and are in a brutal cap spot - but I would assume most Tampa Bay fans would sum up their current rebuilding necessity as "worth it".
I'm not saying Rodgers is the right answer, but we saw Peyton Manning with Broncos and Tom Brady with the Bucs instantly turn those teams into Super Bowl contenders (winners) at the end of their careers. Yes, the Raiders need help everywhere, but it would be pretty interesting to see what a first ballot HOF like Rodgers could do. I realize I may be in the minority on this one, and could be totally wrong, but I believe Rodgers still has more to offer in this game.

Or we could back the truck up and steal Orlando Brown from KC and kill 2 birds with one stone and still draft a rook at T.

his contract is interesting for sure. I found this little blurb that sheds light on the subjectRI RAIDER wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 12:28 pm:Rodgers is pipe. with the cap surely going up as the new TV contracts are signed, these numbers will sting less and less. We would, I think, need about 60M in cap space to bring him in but the cap hits are not terrible at all.For the team acquiring Rodgers, unless the Packers negotiate the deal to retain some of the cap hit, they take on the remaining base salaries, the two option bonuses, a $50,000 workout bonus per year, and two $5 million roster bonuses in 2025 and 2026. As it stands, the cap numbers for the team acquiring Rodgers would be as follows:
2023: $15.79 million
2024: $32.50 million
2025: $51.10 million
2026: $45.53 million
If the team acquiring Rodgers wanted to release him next offseason before the second option bonus, it would cost them $43.725 million in dead money as a pre-June 1 cut. As a post-June 1 cut, it would be $14.575 million in dead money in 2024 and a further $29.15 million in 2025.

Yeah I saw his cap hit..extremely doable.Jeremyturner1976 » Thu Feb 02, 2023 12:48 pm
I worry about the hero ball. I guarantee there could have been multiple picks against the 9ers but the defenders lost those 50/50 battles.Jeevo wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 9:42 am:Not saying he wasn't bad against KC but Jones destoyed the interior of the line in that one. Pretty tough day for any QB I think and a really tough one for a guy as inexperienced as him.

I am not sure, but deals can be redone. I know you end up paying the price but it is an option. But Rodgers might end up only wanting to play for a couple more years.HesterLayes wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 12:44 pm:Yeah I saw his cap hit..extremely doable.
He’d be a two year guy for us if we go that route.Hate to give up that 7 though. :(
RI RAIDER » Thu Feb 02, 2023 1:38 pm
I still would not do it, but I'll play along. That #7 would be a deal breaker for me. Give them Waller (who they supposedly wanted), our 2nd and Carr (if they want). Trade down from 7 to the Steelers and grab #17 and the first pick in the 2nd round. Ultimately, it would be a wash in terms of cap vs. what we paid Carr (considering the cap space we would be saving by offing Waller). We would still have 2 PREMIUM picks to build our D.HesterLayes wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 12:44 pm:Yeah I saw his cap hit..extremely doable.

And Yes, I would take a SB win and then be awful for a few years over just being awful which we have tasted for quite sometime now. Pretty sure the Rams fans feel that way and if they don't they should take up watching another sport.
With that, I guess i'm in the miniorty here, I voted for Love but want nothing to do with Lance.

I think if we bring back Eluemunor and let he and Munford battle it out at RT we're fine. Orlando Brown will only play LT, so he'd be a terrible signing as it would mean we're moving Miller to RT.sooperkool wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 12:15 pm: That whole right side is a problem and seems like it has been for decades.
