Oops.Ivanavich wrote Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:20 pm:You are asking the QB to overcome losing a Top 5 TE and another of his highly paid WRs, to overcome an o-line that keeps changing and to overcome a defense that has let every QB have the best stats of their season facing it.
It shouldn't matter the name on the QB's jersey. It's too much to ask. Period. Carr has held up remarkably well considering the futility of his situation. Brady, Rodgers and Mahomes aren't asked to go through that amount of distress.
The player who has played himself gone is Jacobs. A big raise for an allegedly elite HB who couldn't score the game winning 2 points try in one game and who couldn't get the offense past midfield at least once during the first 3 quarters of another game?
Not if you like to win.

Can we draft Hooker in later rounds and stash him away for the year. He can learn the offense and get healthy.16 to 88 » Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:56 pm
Agreed with all of this.signal wrote Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:22 pm:There is wisdom in this post. IF you can find a game manager that as you put it "has a set of nuts." I think you can be a successful franchise if you are able to successfully fortify your team and especially the D with PREMIUM draft picks and free agents given the room under the cap you have made available.
That said, there is simply no one formula that you have to follow. IF the Raiders find themselves really in love with a QB and can manage getting him in the first...you make the move. If they see someone in the second or third round they see who possesses a high ceiling but has yet to put it together ....you take him.
BUT, the Raiders need to begin to take some swings at the most important position in football. You have no chance of getting a home run, let alone a hit without taking a damn swing. You are not going to win a championship by always taking the damn walk.

Yeah, Hooker getting hurt puts a kink in the draft and for teams no doubt.STHfrontrow wrote Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:36 pm:Can we draft Hooker in later rounds and stash him away for the year. He can learn the offense and get healthy.

Agree with everything you said. It's hard to criticize going for a QB if you think he's the guy. I wouldn't complain. I just think the odds of us hitting what would need to be a Herbert level guy is very slim. Of course defensive players bust all the time and we need not look outside our team to know that.signal wrote Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:22 pm:There is wisdom in this post. I think that or a lower Rd pick is a possibility. One that needs a year to grow and learn. But I see them keeping Carr for another year if that happens. Everything I've heard is if cut after next year it's a 7.5m cap hit which isn't a lot in the scheme of things and they would have a serviceable if unspectacular qbSTHfrontrow wrote Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:36 pm:Can we draft Hooker in later rounds and stash him away for the year. The only way Carr is a Raider next season is if the team cuts him 8 weeks from now, no other team offers him anything, and the Raiders resign him to a one-year $3 or $4 million contract.Willmark wrote Wed Nov 23, 2022 9:30 am:Carr will be back in 2023, Mark Davis wants him. Sucks but is what it is.
Time to make peace with it boys

He might sign for a team friendly deal as he knows others may not break the bank or he wants another chance to prove something. Seems crazy the Raiders would cut him and another team could pick him up with no compensation. Guess a comp pick is in order after that scenario.Archaic wrote Wed Nov 23, 2022 6:37 pm:The only way Carr is a Raider next season is if the team cuts him 8 weeks from now, no other team offers him anything, and the Raiders resign him to a one-year $3 or $4 million contract.

Remember last off season no team wanted to sign Jimmy G, who is significantly more skilled and accomplished than Derek Carr.STHfrontrow wrote Wed Nov 23, 2022 8:02 pm:

Yeah I dont really see any sure thing QB picks in this draft. The last one that was supposed to be almost a once in a generation talent was lawrence. I wouldnt call him a bust but hes not blowing away the NFL either.Ivanavich wrote Sat Nov 19, 2022 12:43 pm:If there were to be a meaningful QB discussion, someone should list the QBs in the last 3 drafts who were projected to get drafted or who did get drafted but not projected to be drafted and where are they now.
All these "I want this guy who isn't one of the top 3 names" are blind shots in the dark with practically no hope to be starters. But, that's not saying that they couldn't make it - we need more than a name to decide.
I've already made my decision on the top 3 names
Levis looks like a late 2nd to 3rd round flyer to me.

If the defense is built stronger that would only help Carr staying at a team friendly deal.
