Right here with you in the OC, and I've been waiting for some damn sustained sunshine.GUYDON wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 10:26 am:Im just in a bitchass mood right now. First I live in Orange County and it has been cold and rainy for 3 damn months. Im paying PREMIUM prices to live in great weather, and Im getting Seattle.
Next, I wanted to go for it this season. I saw a path to Rodgers and several guys that could have helped the defense (wagner and others) to give us an actual shot at winning THIS year. Would I sacrifice the future to have a shot at a super bowl for a couple seasons? You God damn right I would.
After 20 years of pure trash and "building" I have no confidence anyone can build this team. Its a crap shoot. At least getting proven players at key positions, gives you a shot.
I will eventually accept the raiders arent going to be good this season, and settle in to my well worn losing chair.
But we had a shot. Adding Rodgers to this offense, and selling the house to get some good defensive players would have got us big wins, no doubt in my mind. But instead we will settle for wait and see as usual.
Our stars will be one year older this time next season. And a year older than that the next season while we wait for these mythical good draftees to develop.
Im just trying to get my mind around another losing season while our stadium looks like an away game because the apathy around this team is so high.

I've lived in the the bay area, Ca all my life. When people here complain about the weather it's because they're spoiled. As long as it doesn't rain when Cleveland plays the A's at the coliseum in April, I ain't trippin. So it better rain like crazy the rest of the month, so it will be dry by the time baseball season starts.Dark Horse » Tue Mar 21, 2023 12:16 pm

I’m in SD and been loving the rain since we’ve been in a perpetual drought & all… only wish our leaders had invested in more reservoirs or better systems a long time ago since so much of it runs off into the oceanColoradoraider » Tue Mar 21, 2023 12:39 pm
This is an excellent post. Props to you.signal wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 9:15 am:In free agency, you typically have to overpay for good talent because there is usually a bidding war in order to sign the player.
In free agency, you are paying for what the player has done thus far in the NFL.
Players that are good enough to stick in the NFL throughout their NFL career but have not broken through during their rookie contracts...and are hitting the age of 26, 27, 28; in many cases (outside of RB) those players have gained experience, are developing and are entering their best years as a pro. To add these types of players on the cheap is getting value. Many of them will play better than how they did on their rookie contracts. So you are paying less for more.
A team like the Raiders that lacks depth at every position, these types of moves are EXACTLY what the Raiders should be doing. You bring in experienced NFL players who are prime to take it to the next level. You gather many of them in hopes that one or maybe even two of them will surprise. If none do, you still have an experienced backup which is better than having a bunch of FA rookies who are green.
P.S. The key to getting good value in free agency is to sign players who will be better than they were on their last contract. So you pay for the "less production" in order to get "more production." The idea is to find those players who have been developing and who you think will be entering their best years in the league. These types of signings will never look good at the time they are made. But, when they work it is a way a team gets strong value for their buck.

Utah Blizzards with wind chill at 10 a week away from spring. It's a son of a bitch at times, especially when you see California plates everywhere driving every price up like crazy. I should be in Malibu surfing right now. I'll take your weather easy. Go Raiders!GUYDON wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 10:26 am:Im just in a bitchass mood right now. Oh well, you acted as if 1 year deals was a novel concept. I think you missed the point that MORE quality players are taking 1 year deals, even guys at or near the top of their FA classes.16 to 88 wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 3:17 pm:lol.
Thanks for the update. My first go round with the NFL offseason now going on 50+ years of watching it...
