What I'm saying is that the money that was earmarked for Waller is effectively the money that went to Meyers, a potentially better fit in the scheme and culture, plus we got a 3rd out of it.Raider727 wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 2:54 pm:Replacing Meyers with Waller and a 3rd is a fair exchange, considering the Raiders still need a tight end and a good tight end is harder to replace than a good receiver.
But using the money to get a good defender would have been my personal preference, since our defense is so bare and lacking in talent.
I still think this offense has the ability to be top 10 or better with Garoppolo as long as he is healthy for the whole season.
The defense is definitely going to struggle, but if they play hard, tackle well and play smart by not commit stupid penalties, it's all you can ask for really.
Comparing Carr to Garoppolo this year is going to be interesting to say the least.

I agree. Waller is a giant slot receiver. Our system needs a TE who can block. Not bagging on him but he wasn't a great fit for us and hadn't been healthy. I think Meyers will work out great and the money is a wash.Ordos wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:53 pm:What I'm saying is that the money that was earmarked for Waller is effectively the money that went to Meyers, a potentially better fit in the scheme and culture, plus we got a 3rd out of it.
Meyer's money does not preclude us from finding a defensive replacement any more than Waller + no Meyers did.

More of how they operate in McDaniels system to be specific. I'm not expecting Jimmy to improvise much, but to take command of this offense more smoothly.16 to 88 wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:21 pm:There is no comparison historically.
Garoppolo doesn't have some of the tools that Carr possesses, but he will leave it all on the field.

I agree with the bolded and also think Meyers is a good fit but that money would have been better spent on defense because I would like the Raiders to be more of a running team 1st.FLORIDARAYDAH wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:57 pm:I agree. Hmm, type of TE that fit in McDaniels system, can't imagine whathe would look for in a TE for that? A Gronk maybe?FLORIDARAYDAH wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:57 pm:I agree. We're going to find out if the decision makers have done their homework and due diligence.Willmark wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 6:00 pm:Hmm, type of TE that fit in McDaniels system, can't imagine whathe would look for in a TE for that? A Gronk maybe?
Can't imagine where in the draft we might find a player who is "Gronk like" /s

He should have "cleaned house" with a 10 win team that went to the playoffs?BluegrassRaider wrote Mon Mar 20, 2023 8:40 pm:Seems to me he over learned it, bending over ass backward to do the opposite.
He should have come in cleaning house instead of re-uping guys that he had to get rid of and trying to prop up a fool's gold build because of a total fool's gold playoff appearance featuring Covid-19 by bringing in high dollar free agents to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Now it is more backdoor handwringing about fucking weak ass Hoopty using Cutler as his avatar and bellyaching about a long snapper.

In the Raiders 50 years history Dennis Allen was the team's worst coach. I expect that 31 NFL teams are now laughing at the Saints for having signed Carr.16 to 88 wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:18 pm:Again, if he replaces Carr and inserts Stidham and we win 6-7 games fans and the media would be screaming from the rafters why did he put in Mac Jones back up over Carr? For the love of Pete, you have a lot of fans and the Media this year, saying we shouldn't have let him go. Fans and media thing Allen in New Orleans think they have there man so does that make Allen a competent coach?
And it's guess work to say Belichick and Reid would have done this or that. I think they did okay. They inherited a team with a roster full of nobody's and cap issues. They borrowed Carr for a year while they overturned half the roster. Now they have jettisoned Carr while they keep turning it over in an attempt to acquire talent along the way. Still doesn't mean McDaniels is the answer but so far it looks to be like they are probably on the right track.

I agree with the perception this would cause and their reluctance to rip off the bandaid, but at the end of the day, Brady for example would have known Carr was fools gold.Dark Horse wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 6:28 pm:He should have "cleaned house" with a 10 win team that went to the playoffs?

He can coach a defense way better than offense, that's for sure.Archaic wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 6:35 pm:In the Raiders 50 years history Dennis Allen was the team's worst coach. I expect that 31 NFL teams are now laughing at the Saints for having signed Carr.
