Yeah he’s a bull in a china shop.I’m an SEC guy like I’ve said, but I caught a few ND games and he looks like a man among boys in run game and receiving. Inch shorter than Gronk and lighter, but that’s who I’d compare him to. I know Gronk missed a season with injury, but he wasn’t a sure-fire thing either and went in the second.Willmark wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 6:21 pm:Already there as a ND homer (types this wearing a ND hoodie).

Unfortunately no, I have caught almost every ND game of his over the last three years as I rarely miss a ND game.HesterLayes wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 6:42 pm:Yeah he’s a bull in a china shop.I’m an SEC guy like I’ve said, but I caught a few ND games and he looks like a man among boys in run game and receiving. Mayer is the best all-around TE in the draft.
You see him live?

Everyone is a critic lolWillmark wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 7:08 pm:Unfortunately no, I have caught almost every ND game of his over the last three years as I rarely miss a ND game.
Agreed. Anyone who has watched him? His talent is evident. He does really well in all aspects of the game. I think whoever lands him is going to be happy with the results.
That said its always a crap shoot. IMO I'd take the risk. And if he was there for our 2nd pick? I'd be running to the podium.
Of course there will be detractors whom I have to wonder just how many games of his they have watched.

Yeah, you're never going to get another Gronk exactly but given how the Offense in NE morphed over the years I could see (as it stands right now) what McDaniels is aiming for:HesterLayes wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 7:22 pm:I’m sure McD is creaming about him though.
It is deep and that dude from Georgia is a OL playing TE! Problem is he's (likely) never going to be an offensive threat with that amount of bulk. Could be a handful in the RZ though; can't see too many defenders who could handle/cover him.HesterLayes wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 7:22 pm:Good TE class, but I think he is the best all around. Of course I haven’t seen them all play. The kid from Georgia is a beast too btw

The fans and media can kiss ass. We won six anyway. Got crucified in the media anyway. Got accused of screwing the Eternal Rookie anyway.16 to 88 wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 4:18 pm:Again, if he replaces Carr and inserts Stidham and we win 6-7 games fans and the media would be screaming from the rafters why did he put in Mac Jones back up over Carr? For the love of Pete, you have a lot of fans and the Media this year, saying we shouldn't have let him go. Fans and media thing Allen in New Orleans think they have there man so does that make Allen a competent coach?
And it's guess work to say Belichick and Reid would have done this or that. I think they did okay. They inherited a team with a roster full of nobody's and cap issues. They borrowed Carr for a year while they overturned half the roster. Now they have jettisoned Carr while they keep turning it over in an attempt to acquire talent along the way. Still doesn't mean McDaniels is the answer but so far it looks to be like they are probably on the right track.

What perception advantage did we gain here?Jeremyturner1976 wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 6:38 pm:I agree with the perception this would cause and their reluctance to rip off the bandaid, but at the end of the day, Brady for example would have known Carr was fools gold.
They should have had an idea about Waller's dedication from a proper front office giving accurate information.
We are really starting late now on the rebuild, but it is what it is.
I will admit though, once the trigger was pulled on the 'save' Carr's career action of trading for Adams, I have to say I was on board with it. There was a level of 'just in case' that worked for my imagination.
I am not a professional NFL coach or GM though.

The Raiders are in a new market and obviously have thrown long term success away for the shot of looking like a contender.BluegrassRaider wrote Tue Mar 21, 2023 11:29 pm:What perception advantage did we gain here?
If you are going to get pummeled, take it for doing the right thing rather than shooting yourself in the foot for a brief fake pat on the head before the savaging kicks off anyway.
I like weak even less than stupid.

2021 Raiders beat 3 playoff teams, 3 non playoff 9-8 teams, a couple of 8-9 teams.Willmark » Wed Mar 22, 2023 3:52 am

The other two wins are 7-10 Denver.
With Cold Weather Carr, that team had the ball and was driving ON THE ROAD AND IN THE COLD to tie the football game in Cincinnati.
Sorry.
That was a legit playoff team.
The only real question is whether that team would have dropped games in NYG and at home against CHI and WAS if not for Gruden controversy.

Didn't we also play teams running backup QB's down the stretch due to Covid or injuries? Then played Wentz who was coming back from Covid and didn't practice all week leading up to the game against us, due to that? I guess I can't say we "backed our way in" to the playoffs, because we won, but it sure felt that way to me that year.Willmark wrote Wed Mar 22, 2023 3:52 am:Disagree

Ridiculously lucky last second FGs
Defense playing above and beyond
And the MVP of that season Covid ravaging other teams made it an outlier.
As I recall we were something like -56 in point differential. Like our insane turnover +/- in 2016 it was a fluke.

The NFL is the most luck-dependent sport compared to the NHL (2nd) and NBA (3rd) which are far behind largely due to luck leveling out over much longer seasons. In a 16/17 game season having a few bounces not go your way can be devastating just as having a handful of bounces go your way can send a team into the playoffs. Teams are aware of this but you can’t operate based on expected luck so if you are a GM of a team that made the playoffs aided by good fortune, good luck trying to explain to your owner that you want to rebuild because you don’t expect the same luck next season. It’s just not realistic.Willmark wrote Wed Mar 22, 2023 3:52 am:Disagree
