QBs are always overdrafted. If Ziegler wasn't sure if O'Connell would be around in Round 5, it's better to take him early rather than get cute and risk missing out altogether.Attyla wrote Fri Jun 02, 2023 12:17 pm:Like I said some time ago, he was probably over drafted by one round but Ziegler sees something in him enough to pull the trigger a little early.

Well let's hope it doesn't turn out like the Conner Cook experiment,,trading up & passing on Dak lolSir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Fri Jun 02, 2023 4:02 pm:QBs are always overdrafted. O'Connell could be that drafted version of Dak. Meaning he could be the steal of the draft. He could also be a dud but I'm rooting towards a Purdy type of pick.pfish57 wrote Fri Jun 02, 2023 4:44 pm: Well let's hope it doesn't turn out like the Conner Cook experiment,,trading up & passing on Dak lol

Wanna tell me your thoughts on Garbers? Don't have that much view on him myself and I don't recall seeing him last year in preseason much last year.GUYDON wrote Fri Jun 02, 2023 1:08 pm:Like I said, the cool thing is we should see him a bunch in the pre-season. With Jimmy out for who knows how long, my boy Garbers might stick around for more than just practice squad.
Im guessing Garbers has grown quite a bit during the offseason. I like him. The competition between him and the rook should be fun to watch.

in the first round yes, in later rounds it can prove to be a mistake. I do not fault them for taking him early, his skill set matches up pretty nicely, but he did go earlier than projected by manySir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Fri Jun 02, 2023 4:02 pm:QBs are always overdrafted. I would say that over drafting a QB that busts in the first round is far worse. First round picks should become starters on the team and you are looking hopefully at getting a playmaker. In the fourth round, your expectations are simply not that high. You hope that the player will turn into a starter, but history tells you that the percentages are that most starters come from the first three rounds.Attyla wrote Sat Jun 03, 2023 4:25 am:in the first round yes, in later rounds it can prove to be a mistake. Wait, you won't be pissing, moaning and acting like the world is over if he doesn't become the second coming of Brady? Don't worry, there will plenty who will be calling for the heads of everyone involved, including Brady if he happens to falter.signal wrote Sat Jun 03, 2023 8:24 am:I would say that over drafting a QB that busts in the first round is far worse. So, if Z swung and missed on O'Connell, I for one will not be here moaning about it. Raiders need to continue to swing for that position and if that swing takes place in the fourth round instead of the fifth round....well, damn, not sure I will even give it a moments thought. From what I have read Z really likes this guy. Could he be mistaken.? Yep. Sure he could be. But a mistake in the fourth or taking a risk in the fourth is that what we should be concerned with?
Past regime was wasting first round picks by the bushels and we should step back and be concerned because Z took a risk in the 4th round on a QB he really likes? Wow has the line moved.

I like his footwork, accuracy, he is competitive, solid mobility, it just feels like he is in charge on the field. The knock on him has been his arm strength, but I didn't really see an issue with it.raiderkoch wrote Fri Jun 02, 2023 8:51 pm:Wanna tell me your thoughts on Garbers? Over drafting QBs in the first round happens a ton. And with the rookie cap, that error is not as damaging as it used to be.. Teams can afford to take a risk on a guy with flaws in their game. We saw it in the first round in this very draft. The risk/reward factor is far less than in the past. Teams were financially bound to a bust QB far longer and the impact on the team was felt far longer. I think over drafting a QB in the first round actually makes some sense for certain teams. In the latter rounds, over drafting a QB, while having low impact and lower financial impact, can hurt the team, especially a team thin on talent, in securing role players and special teams players. We are such a team. Had we taken a QB in the first, I would not have an issue with over drafting since we are in a position to take some risks to improve the team. In the latter rounds, we really need to flesh out the starting roster wherever possible. Over drafting a QB in our position could hurt us a bit long term.Dark Horse » Sat Jun 03, 2023 10:24 am
Every knows how I felt about the top QBs in this year's draft. There was an unusually wide gap between the top and 2nd tier draftable QBs. Of that second tier, I identified 3 I would draft and they were Tune, Bennett, and O'Connell. Aiden was absolutely pissing me off vs. Michigan, throwing for 366 yards on 32 of 46 and two TDs, no INTS.Attyla » Sat Jun 03, 2023 11:21 am
at this level, he is a sitting duck if he tries to run. the speed of his competition was mostly not that great so he got away with it because of that. and the DBs he will face will pick apart that thread the needle approach. He does not have the velocity on his ball to pull it off, He will be best served by getting his lower body mechanics fixed and stay in the pocket. His pocket awareness is pretty good and his play action can keep defenses honest. He would get away with a scramble every once in a while, problem is most teams will not respect his deep ball so defenses can play up toward the line.Jeevo » Sat Jun 03, 2023 12:13 pm
He doesn't need to try to run to be effective, he just needs to buy himself a small piece of time, and we've seen a lot of slow, but smart, QBs succeed by doing so. Hell the guy who dominated the league for almost 2 decades was slow as molasses.Attyla wrote Sat Jun 03, 2023 11:21 am:at this level, he is a sitting duck if he tries to run.
