Again for the cheap seats, he is NOT calling the offensive plays.crowbar wrote Wed Mar 27, 2024 10:33 pm:Raiders lost me after the Vikings game.
Alot depends on if AP is no longer fundamentally stupid & if he still insists on running the ball when it's not working.

That's true, but it doesn't abdicate him of any responsibility for what happens with the offense.Attyla wrote Thu Mar 28, 2024 3:30 am:Again for the cheap seats, he is NOT calling the offensive plays.

Ah, but that is an entirely different conversation. He is arguing that in that game we ran the ball when running the ball was not working. AP does not call the plays so the option of running the ball would fall to the interim OC.Opoponax50 wrote Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:10 am:That's true, but it doesn't abdicate him of any responsibility for what happens with the offense.
I appreciate his willingness to stick with O'Connell through the hard times, but in that game against the Vikings, going with JimmyG in the second half would've more likely than not yielded us a win. Then he could've gone back to O'Connell in the next game, just like the old school coaches used to do.
What I don't recall however is the team stubbornly running the ball once McDickface was fired. When the circumstances required throwing the ball, we threw it, unlike the game against Buffalo where we were down by 18 halfway through the 3rd quarter and McDickhead was still handing the ball off to Josh Jacobs like there was another 8 quarters to go.
Anyway, the HC is ultimately responsible for everything that happens on the field and AP is no different.

I actually think the head coach can and should be involved in the overall focus of the offense even if he's a defensive guy. I suspect that AP is a guy who will say "lets lean on the run game", or "lets make sure we take some deep shots". It's not like he's an idiot about offense, or the tone of a game. It's still up to the OC to make the play calls of course, but I think the head coach gets involved too.Amish Cabal » Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:31 am
AP didn't have much choice last year than to, for continuity's sake, let the rookie OC operate, out of the same playbook. Some games we saw offensive improvement, others not so much. Bit harsh, IMO, to be mad at a defensive minded interim HC, thrown in the fire, for everything that happened on offense. Hopefully Getsy shows more competence.Attyla » Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:51 am
I don't think last year he was going to mess with offensive play calling, first because he probably only had a very basic knowledge of the play book, and second he was thrown into the deep end and his focus was quite obviously culture changes. He let both the offense and defense be run by the coordinators.chucker wrote Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:26 am:I actually think the head coach can and should be involved in the overall focus of the offense even if he's a defensive guy. I guess thats fair but AP certainly had no involvement in the offense all training camp and season prior to being named interim HC. Maybe he gave some basic input but I doubt he had much say over anything on offense regarding play selection.chucker wrote Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:26 am:I actually think the head coach can and should be involved in the overall focus of the offense even if he's a defensive guy. AP is a players' coach that's all he's suppose to be. I'm assuming he has the option to go with "gut" calls on plays if he really thinks something is going to work but that's about it, as far as game / clock management those are things you can learn, it's all statistics and odds and hopefully there is an assistant coach close to him to keep him from blowing it, telling him when he should call a crucial timeout or not call one for that matter. Again he's a player guy, that's his job, their entire locker room was a cancerous mutiny waiting to happen. Anyone that thinks he's there for more than that is kidding themselves.crowbar » Fri Mar 29, 2024 7:41 pm
Gotcha, the Head Coach will never tell the OC what to do or what he wants.Attyla wrote Thu Mar 28, 2024 3:30 am:Again for the cheap seats, he is NOT calling the offensive plays.

Yeop, well stated. Way to much going on in such a short time to cover all bases especially when the day before you were the LB coach and now you are the HC wearing multiple hats.Amish Cabal wrote Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:31 am:AP didn't have much choice last year than to, for continuity's sake, let the rookie OC operate, out of the same playbook. "Alot" is not a real word. You should use real words when you are accusing others of being "fundamentally stupid".crowbar wrote Wed Mar 27, 2024 10:33 pm:Raiders lost me after the Vikings game.

Mark Davis walks into AP's office and asks him, "What's going on with the offense?" AP looks back at him and says, "I have no clue. That's not my job. I don't know, and I don't wanna know."crowbar wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 7:41 pm:Gotcha, the Head Coach will never tell the OC what to do or what he wants.

In addition to English, I looked up "alot" in French, German, Russian, and Dutch.srv5490 wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 9:29 pm:"Alot" is not a real word. You should use real words when you are accusing others of being "fundamentally stupid".
