Well, so far they are not flocking to our doorstep due to the Pierce factor. Not that I expected a stampede but it has been slow and sure to the finish line, not a sprint.chucker » Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:51 am
It's hard to assess - have you heard of us being interested in a FA who we didn't get? There haven't even been rumors that I can recall. Even the guys we signed came out of the blue though - I didn't hear anything in advance about Wilkins, Minshew or the TE, whose name escapes me right now.Attyla wrote Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:44 am:Well, so far they are not flocking to our doorstep due to the Pierce factor. Given what I have heard about TT this is how he goes about attacking free agency. He might strike big early but then tends to wait for bargains.Attyla wrote Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:44 am:Well, so far they are not flocking to our doorstep due to the Pierce factor. Yes, TT does run a tight ship. I have heard nothing, absolutely nothing in regards to who or what direction this team will go in free agency. All of the pickups have been surprises and expect the same throughout the long process.chucker wrote Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:51 am:It's hard to assess - have you heard of us being interested in a FA who we didn't get? I am more referring to the winter claims that just having Pierce as the head coach assured us of having guys flocking to the building willing to take team favorable deals to play for Pierce ala Brady. I agree that we may or may not have missed on a guy here or there or maybe we have not. I just found those comments to be highly questionable given guys play for cash, rarely coaches.chucker wrote Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:51 am:It's hard to assess - have you heard of us being interested in a FA who we didn't get? Guys absolutely play for cash first. But when the cash is close enough, then they have decisions to make and I think we'll win a lot of those toss-ups. For all we know Wilkins may have had similar offers, and chose the Raiders. Also for all we know, we may have just offered more cash. I'm really no more useful than Vic, I don't know shit.Attyla wrote Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:03 am:I am more referring to the winter claims that just having Pierce as the head coach assured us of having guys flocking to the building willing to take team favorable deals to play for Pierce ala Brady. I am just not sure that a head coach plays into a lot of those decisions. Most guys other than the QB spend a lot more time with their coordinators and position coaches. I think if we win a lot of those toss ups, it will be playing in a party town with no taxes. Although Florida, Texas and Tennessee can also lay claim to that. Even being party towns as these guys tend to hang out in VIP rooms or areas when they are out and about.chucker wrote Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:08 am:Guys absolutely play for cash first. Yes, cash is king and that's what they are after.chucker wrote Sat Mar 16, 2024 11:08 am:Guys absolutely play for cash first. Jack Jones is here because of AP. A 2024 top 3 QB prospect would choose AP if he could. Our own players were vocal about wanting AP. You're right that no crowds are beating the doors down, but I think it sweetens any deal if the player likes the coach and can respect him.Attyla wrote Sat Mar 16, 2024 12:13 pm:I am just not sure that a head coach plays into a lot of those decisions. Seeing a few sportsbooks releasing early season win totals. Draft Kings currently has the Raiders o/u at 6.5, similar to last years preseason totals.Raidernation1979 » Tue Mar 26, 2024 4:43 pm
Funny they have us at 3rd in the division with chargers finishing above us. Also they have the saints at 3rd.DrDUne wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 3:26 pm:Seeing a few sportsbooks releasing early season win totals. Draft Kings currently has the Raiders o/u at 6.5, similar to last years preseason totals.
Yes, I understand the draft and free agency still play a part, but there are very rarely huge swings in these numbers.
