ESPN’s Louis Riddick: Why the Raiders are the Perfect Fit for Michael Penix Jr | The Rich Eisen ShowRunOverByHubbard » Wed Apr 24, 2024 1:13 pm
I am sure lots of doctors have examined him and doctors who consult with teams have talked about this. He could be just fine -- but no way I would take him at 13. Next torn knee and major regret will set in. I like taking a CB especially if the Chargers take a hot wide receiver. Otherwise, an OT is a good choice this year.Sold My Soul wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 1:06 pm:ESPN’s Louis Riddick: Why the Raiders are the Perfect Fit for Michael Penix Jr | The Rich Eisen Show

If the Raiders want to take a shot at him in the 2nd, great. Just don't take him at 13.
Dude is a severe injury risk.

There's another factor in mobility that helps a QB - if the defense thinks the QB may run for a first down, it weakens their coverage ability and opens up more in the passing game. That's more about a willingness to run, than speed or running ability.Opoponax50 wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:35 pm:Exactly how I feel about the guy. You don't need to have Lamar Jackson taking snaps, but your QB has to have some kind of mobility. Just enough to pick up 2-3 first downs per game; enough so that opposing defenses can't make you an afterthought.
O'Connell is utterly immobile and that's just not acceptable.
Every 0-line has some bad games every year. When that happens, we will lose those games because we wouldn't have a QB that can make some plays with their feet.
If the guy had some mobility, then my take on him would be very different. I'd be pointing out all the positives and making the argument that he could be developed. With those cement feet though? Nope.
Maybe that part of his game could be developed, but I just don't see it right now and saw none of it last season.

Exactly, and it's one of the things that was so discouraging about Carr. I know I yelled at the TV countless times when there were running lanes right in front of him that he refused to take advantage of and I don't want to see that shit again. With O'Connell though, even if there are lanes he doesn't appear to be able to take advantage of them. Like with Carr, opposing defenses can sit back in clear passing situations and not have to sweat our QB burning them for that ball-breaking 3rd down conversion late in the 4th quarter.chucker wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 1:25 pm:There's another factor in mobility that helps a QB - if the defense thinks the QB may run for a first down, it weakens their coverage ability and opens up more in the passing game. Lol. Dogers are a lock to take a qb at 3.

You could be a little more fair, you mention great pocket passers and then you don't want to mention good running QB's and then Derek Carr in the mobile QB dept, for the love of... sure he could run, but you have to actually do it.16 to 88 wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:15 pm:Immobile quarterbacks

I didnt mean his clone, I meant a journeyman QB rags to riches story.GoodTimeCharlie wrote Tue Apr 23, 2024 9:35 pm:Outside of team and position they are extremely different. Gannon’s hardcore perfectionism had him exceed his natural talents. He was a tyrant and an unimpeachable “field general”. I like Minshew. He has the mental makeup to be the perfect backup, but he’ll never in a million years match Gannon.
