Yeop, and I have already pointed this out numerous times. The chickens have come home to roost.Raider727 wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:09 pm:Saw this and didn't know where to put it, but I guess I'll put it here.
Only 3 of the 49ers 18 draft picks over the 2022-2023 Drafts have started more than 1 game in their career (3 such players is 2nd-fewest in NFL during span).
While the niners have had recent success, they haven't been hitting on draft picks lately.
If they didn't hit on Purdy with the last pick in the draft, Lynch would not look so good. They haven't had much success with draft picks since they drafted Aiyuk because they traded the farm for Lance.
The Purdy pick a the McCaffrey trade were huge for them.

I did it to illustrate a point that there have been many a successful immoble quarterback that didn't run 2-3 times a game for first downs. Sure, we all know there have been good mobile ones who have had success that way as there have been statues who have been busts. But that wasn't the point. As for Carr I put him on there... to illustrate a point. Even if I where to remove him it still doesn't remove the fact that while that is nice to have that ability it's not a necessity in order to be a good pro.SkullCrusher wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:49 pm:You could be a little more fair, you mention great pocket passers and then you don't want to mention good running QB's and then Derek Carr in the mobile QB dept, for the love of... sure he could run, but you have to actually do it.

I'm not too high on Purdy but he is smart.16 to 88 wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:13 pm:Yeop, and I have already pointed this out numerous times. The chickens have come home to roost.
Both Lynch and Shanahan had a hand in that. Said for the last couple years repeatedly they can't keep the band together forever and the Lance debacle ruined their chance of restocking the roster with high end draft capital. Eventually other teams will pass them up in their division. Pretty sure that the wheels will start to fall off come this season. They were all in trying to win the SB in hopes to not only get a trophy but avoid the fallout from that trade. While the media may not be pointing this out no doubt they haven't escaped criticism from the other 31 teams.
Regarding Purdy, is he really that good? I don't think he is. I pointed this out multiple times last season that he wasn't throwing the ball much at all and sure enough by seasons end he had only 444 attempted passes in 16 games! To give you an idea that places him 28th in the league in attempts per game. They were getting it done by defense and their ability not to just run the ball, but they were in the majority of cases annihilating their opponents with the run game. Posted these numbers many times before as well. These are the rushing totals for each game Purdy started. iNsAnE! The vast majority of the time they were just mowing over opponents with the run, keeping the defense fresh in doing so and just asking Purdy not to goof it all up.
Also important to note that when they couldn't just mow over opponents and they had to lean on him to win the game the majority of the time he didn't.

Guys like Brady, Ryan, Stafford, Burrows, Rivers etc showed something that AOC hasn’t even shown a hint of so far - The ability to slide around in the pocket & create a passing opportunity16 to 88 wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:15 pm:Immobile quarterbacks

I think it's pretty obvious what this illustrates. Did Peyton Manning or Tom Brady ever actually run 2-3 times a game to pick up first downs? It was a rare sighting to see those guys amongst the others in that list ever doing that. When you look at the other list all those guys had wheels to do that very thing but... they sucked.
Of course before being drafted, scouts, HC's and GM's took those wheels into consideration and thinking the same thing but it does you no good if you can't play the position. Sorry, but having the ability to pick up first downs with your legs is only good if you can first be able to throw the ball. Yes, having good wheels is another feather in your cap so to speak but it's hardly a prerequisite as this clearly illustrates.

I get the feeling that all the noise about Daniels has been to distract from another couple of targets. I just hope we come out of this with a QB sooner or later in the draft. Minshew is an excellent place holder while we get a develomental QBAttyla » Thu Apr 25, 2024 3:30 am
Minshew bought a bus and converted it into a living space so he could live right next to the gym where he worked out. The guy is quirky and fun loving but his dedication to being the best he can be cannot be questioned. He will be an excellent mentor to the QB of the future....we just need to add that future now, today,.Marzan wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 3:22 am:I get the feeling that all the noise about Daniels has been to distract from another couple of targets. The injury’s with Penix don’t worry me. The next leg injury can finish his career but the same can be with every other QB. He’s changed his style so he doesn’t take as many hits.Opoponax50 » Thu Apr 25, 2024 5:39 am
What indication is there that O'Connell has the same instant analytic and throwing ability as the guys you mentioned?16 to 88 wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 9:15 pm:Immobile quarterbacks

AOC isn't just immobile, he shows poor pocket awareness and a total lack of ability to move around and manipulate the pocket. It's like he has cement blocks for feet. He's also an average to below average thrower of the football not a good combination.16 to 88 wrote Wed Apr 24, 2024 10:21 pm:I did it to illustrate a point that there have been many a successful immoble quarterback that didn't run 2-3 times a game for first downs. We could just roll with AO for 9 years and find ourselves drafting right in the fucking middle of the draft year after year.
Sure feels like we tried that before.

Nobody can match Carr's pussydom , but AOC is less talented than Carr overtall.Amish Cabal wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 6:14 am:SHOTS FIRED!!! Harsh man.
Poor AO played half a rookie season with trash coordinators. He definitely needs to step up his game this year, but Carrbage territory? OUCH!!!
GoodTimeCharlie » Thu Apr 25, 2024 9:40 am
Oh no man, I meant the situation of having a QB that consistently gets us to the middle of the pack. Too far to play in the QB draft derby or have teams fill the coffers with draft picks to move up, and not far enough due to getting somewhere in the playoffs.Amish Cabal wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 6:14 am:SHOTS FIRED!!!
