And what would you have done differently in this draft? There were no QB's available at 13. No one wanted to trade with us for a spot to get one. Keep complaining about what there was no control over...lol.Raider_Dave wrote Sat Apr 27, 2024 7:41 pm:We have 2 backup QBs, that's it.

What would you have done Mr. GM? Go ahead and outline your moves to get us the QB we should have taken. We'll wait for your wisdom to shine through.Raider_Dave wrote Sat Apr 27, 2024 7:57 pm:With all due respect... we have AOC who's a statue back there, and Minshew who will be on his 4th team in 5 years. WE may have the worst QB situation in the NFL. Panthers come to mind as maybe being worse, Giants also I guess. Bottom 3 for QBs is not a good place to be.

Let's get Tom Brady back for a half seasonDark Horse » Sun Apr 28, 2024 12:33 am
Sounds like some people wanted to get a day 2 or 3 QB just to say we did it.Dr Death wrote Sat Apr 27, 2024 8:15 pm:And what would you have done differently in this draft? Your GM and HC would disagree .Raider_Dave wrote Sat Apr 27, 2024 7:41 pm:We have 2 backup QBs, that's it.

The falcons made the biggest bone head move in the draft money wise. They signed a big contract with cousins and then draft a qb. If cousin's gets hurt they are on the hook for all that money ands the same if he gets traded. Falcons screwed themselves this draftWolfRaider » Sun Apr 28, 2024 3:22 am
I can see TT loving Carson Beck.Attyla » Sun Apr 28, 2024 4:46 am
Actually, they did not. They can trade him after one year with very little hit to the cap relatively. They can divest him after 2 years with the same little cap hit. If Penix proves himself to be a NFL starter, he could move up to #1 and Cousins becomes a memory.Raider Jim wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 3:05 am:The falcons made the biggest bone head move in the draft money wise. I agree. Cousins is what...36? I doubt he plays more than 2-3 more years. It sucked for us, but I think ATL did the smart thing. Penix has the luxury of sitting and learning for a while.Attyla wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 4:46 am:Actually, they did not. They can trade him after one year with very little hit to the cap relatively. ATL got the guy of the future and the guy of the present could be gone next year easily.

I pray that AOC is leaps and bounds better this seasonraiders93 » Sun Apr 28, 2024 6:11 am
It’s not Russell Wilson expensive but it’s still a fairly significant penalty if they get rid of cousins within the next 2 years. I’d also say that in the event they’re looking to move on that early… his contract probably becomes immovable.Attyla wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 4:46 am:Actually, they did not. Yeah I think it was actually a good move. They'll have a qb still on a rookie contract in a yr or two when they'll have to hand out a few extensions, Cousins will be gone by then and they have a guy in place in case of a setback or something happens with CousinsAttyla wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 4:46 am:Actually, they did not. This. Their mindset was correct but they got the player wrong. If they chose JJ, we wouldn't be having this conversation since he's only 21 years old with no injury history.raiders93 wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 6:11 am:It’s not Russell Wilson expensive but it’s still a fairly significant penalty if they get rid of cousins within the next 2 years. there’s nothing wrong with Atlanta getting their heir apparent… I just dont know why they chose Penix. He’s a 6 year starter - is he really going to benefit from sitting for 2-3 years? He’s also 24 years old… he’s gonna be 26-27 before he sees the field?
I thought JJ made a lot more sense for Atlanta. Both from the perspective of needing time to sit and also being a comparatively young QB.

I'd be happy with the Penix draft pick if I were a Falcons fan. I wouldn't have been thrilled with the Cousins signing if I were a Falcons fan but I get that they are in a shitty division and Cousins gives them a very good chance at winning it in 2024. I'd certainly be hoping that the team sees enough in Penix to trade Cousins next offseason, assuming they don't make some deep playoff run with Cousins.
