Could be a line of thinking that they needed a qb and maybe panicked a bit by not wanting to wait/risk the draft so signed Cousins. Cousins is a very short term qb regardless. For those saying that JJ made more sense or they should've picked him instead because he's younger, the answer is that they obviously liked Penix better regardless of age. Even if Penix works out and doesn't start for a year or two, you're still gonna have him for another 10-12 years so who cares if he's 2-3 yrs olderchucker wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 6:40 am:I'd be happy with the Penix draft pick if I were a Falcons fan. I wouldn't have been thrilled with the Cousins signing if I were a Falcons fan but I get that they are in a shitty division and Cousins gives them a very good chance at winning it in 2024. I'd certainly be hoping that the team sees enough in Penix to trade Cousins next offseason, assuming they don't make some deep playoff run with Cousins.

Age isn't relevant for any of these QBs as far as how long they can play. It's only relevant if you think one guy's development potential is tapped out because he's older and has played longer, while you think the younger guy has more chance to mature and develop.Hellbound wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 6:50 am:Could be a line of thinking that they needed a qb and maybe panicked a bit by not wanting to wait/risk the draft so signed Cousins. No but I have a sure bet for you. Carr will be benched for Rattler sometime in the 2025 season. Book it.Willmark wrote Sat Apr 27, 2024 5:11 pm:Anyone got the winning lottery numbers since there is so much prescience around these parts?

I like the Atlanta move. Still shocked me. Would have loved to have Pennix but Que Sera Sera. Not much we could do.heavyD » Sun Apr 28, 2024 7:48 am
I guess the Raiders are taking the position on a year to year basis. It's not a great place to be in the NFL but given the events of the draft it was kind of out of their control as nobody could have foresaw the Falcons taking Penix where they did and I wasn't high enough on Nix that I would have been happy with them taking him at 13 if he was available. Unfortunate thing is that this team is probably not bad enough to pick high enough to get a QB next season so the future is kind of murky.Raider_Len » Sun Apr 28, 2024 7:58 am

I’m shocked they didn’t look at Pratt. I thought he has the potential to be a good QB in this league.CWood24 wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 8:09 am:Any body claiming they knew we wouldn't draft a QB is talking out there ass
Not one person here called anyone we would draft because the first two picks should have been out of range until they weren’t

I certainly wanted one. Not any qb. I would have traded up for Maye. I would have been ok with taking any of the others who fell to us. After the 6. I wanted no oneCWood24 wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 8:09 am:Any body claiming they knew we wouldn't draft a QB is talking out there ass

He has to stop thinking so much. I think he got deer in headlights and was overthinking. Hopefully that changes this offseasonRickRyb wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 8:59 am:I don't know if it will be O'Connell or Minshew, but I think O'Connell has better pocket movement than some remember. He won't ever be mistaken for a scrambler, but he can be efficient.

There were actually reports the day of or a day or two before the draft that Penix to ATL was picking up steam and very possibleheavyD wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 7:48 am:I guess the Raiders are taking the position on a year to year basis. The only way it makes ANY sense is if Kirk is one and done.raiders93 wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 6:11 am:It’s not Russell Wilson expensive but it’s still a fairly significant penalty if they get rid of cousins within the next 2 years. I’d also say that in the event they’re looking to move on that early… his contract probably becomes immovable.
there’s nothing wrong with Atlanta getting their heir apparent… I just dont know why they chose Penix. He’s a 6 year starter - is he really going to benefit from sitting for 2-3 years? He’s also 24 years old… he’s gonna be 26-27 before he sees the field?
I thought JJ made a lot more sense for Atlanta. Both from the perspective of needing time to sit and also being a comparatively young QB.

Not true. It was highlighted when Atlanta had the largest contingent at his pro day. That was weeks ago. After that, the week of the draft there were multiple reports that Penix was favored much more among GMs than the draft pundits. Finally, a couple of days before the draft it was said he was going to go higher than expected. So the signs were there.heavyD wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 7:48 am:I guess the Raiders are taking the position on a year to year basis.
