I’m kinda same as i’m not locked in on one specific guy like a few prospects across the QB, OT & CB spots & i have a feeling we’re going to draft one of those spotsAttyla wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 1:30 pm:Not me, like I have said in the past, I do not anoint a player that I want at all costs, and I welcome each guy and root for them until they shit the bed.

Sitting at 13 and making the selection at 13 to me would look like going through the motions. This offseason so far, has looked like they have a plan. I'd like to see them sign some more guys, but I think this is a part of the plan. They know they are going to get a cap influx on June 2nd once Jimmy G's cut is counted.Opoponax50 » Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:42 pm
It's such an enticing idea: make your team relevant for a decade with one draft pick!16 to 88 wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 5:33 am:I went back over the last 20 years and ran the statistics and posted them somewhere around here. Much more often than not moving up to draft a quarterback was a losing proposition.

Yeah I think alot of people have their heart set on a qb or trading up to get one. I personally don't think they'll throw a bunch of picks or players to move up far. Maybe a few spots if someone starts to slip or something like thatAdamJoshua28 wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 1:27 pm:My favorite thing about Brees was the chargers gave up on him and said he would never come back from his shoulder issues, basically how much he made them regret that. lol
Back on topic, i have a feeling of dread that we are or a lot of us are going to be very let down on draft day, we are letting ourselves in for another huge letdown.

I'm with you on this. I just can't see them giving up so much to move up to take an unknown... no matter how good they were in college.Hellbound wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:43 pm:Yeah I think alot of people have their heart set on a qb or trading up to get one. I don't think they're necessarily looking at qb because the guy they want probably won't be there so that's why I think they have their attention on linemen and cb

Since you referenced the 2020 draft, just wanted to point out that the first 5 QBs taken are all currently starters in the NFL.Opoponax50 wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:42 pm:It's such an enticing idea: make your team relevant for a decade with one draft pick!
The contrast between the 2020 and 2021 draft is illustrative. In 2020, Herbert, Burrow, and Tagovailoa were drafted and all are starters with varying degrees of success. I think it's fair to say that was a pretty damn good draft for first round QBs.
Then fast forward to 2021, where the first three players taken were all QBs: Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Trey Lance. Justin Fields and Mac Jones were also taken in the first round at 11 and 15 respectively. That's five 1st round QBs and only Lawrence hasn't been ass over the last three years. Lawrence hasn't been great, but he looks to be progressing okay.
There is no science to this. Maybe one could call it an art, but it looks like a lot like luck to me. You can reduce the element of luck by having a solid team and good coaching staff in place first, much like KC did when they drafted Mahomes.
We have what appears to be a solid team, but this is based on the shaky assumption that our defense is going to live up to expectations.
We really don't know if we have a good coaching staff. I like AP and at this time I think Mark made the right decision on him, but we'll have to wait and see how that plays out. Oh, and Luke Getsy... With Justin Fields being traded for the draft version of a plain ham sammich, I hope one could understand someone else's reticence to putting a rookie in Getsy's hands.
I think we should wait until round 2 or even later to get a QB. If our coaching staff is worth a shit they'll be able to make something out of the new kid------as long as the new kid is also worth a shit. In the meantime, keep building the team.

At this point i would probably be happy taking a chance on Jordon Travis16 to 88 » Fri Mar 29, 2024 8:32 pm
It's funny, just a month or so back Kurt Warner stated he has no idea who will transition to the NFL because ever single one of the top QB's he watched film of were running the same few plays over and over again. Lots of bubble screens and other plays that aren't used with any frequency in the NFL. Kyle Shanahan was apparently so sure of Trey Lance he traded the farm away to move up and acquire him and we all saw how that turned out. And Lance landed on a team where all he had to do was hand the ball off and not screw up to much and he would look like gold but he couldn't even do that. That, is just how far they whiffed on a quarterback!Opoponax50 wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:42 pm:It's such an enticing idea: make your team relevant for a decade with one draft pick!

It'd be great to see O'Connell win the starting role. I don't think he's going to, but if it does we can at least know that he earned it/the job wasn't handed to him.16 to 88 wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 8:32 pm:It's funny, just a month or so back Kurt Warner stated he has no idea who will transition to the NFL because ever single one of the top QB's he watched film of were running the same few plays over and over again. And yes, it makes sense if you are a rookie coming out of college it would behoove you to land on a team where they can pass protect and run the ball as opposed to a team that is in complete disarray and that is why they are drafting you. As long as your name isn't Trey Lance! Interestingly enough O'Connell came from a college team that ran a pro style offense but he wound up on a team that couldn't pass protect or run the ball. I keep thinking that Aidan is going to make it a very difficult decision on the coaches this year and/or run off the competition.

I can see AP really liking him in interviews. The guy who runs the QB school YouTube channel, said he’s like a Jayden Daniels Lite with his skill set.AdamJoshua28 wrote Fri Mar 29, 2024 7:10 pm:At this point i would probably be happy taking a chance on Jordon Travis

Daniel & Penix are our guys and the raiders should do their best to get one of them.WolfRaider wrote Sat Mar 30, 2024 11:10 am:I can see AP really liking him in interviews. The guy who runs the QB school YouTube channel, said he’s like a Jayden Daniels Lite with his skill set.
But, I would definitely have a gamble on him, especially as you can sit him for a year and get him to learn the system, recover from his injury and work on his accuracy issues.
Pratt and Milton the other two worth picking up and sitting for a year.

At this point, the one glaring issue for the Raiders is our failure to hit on a QB who can change the game. And I am not talking recently, I am talking since Gannon and we had him for a very short while. You can make a case that Hoss was that kind of guy, but it would draw serious arguments. You have to go back to Plunkett to find our guy. In perspective, that means, barring arguments and other than 4 full seasons, we have gone almost 40 years with band-aids at the most important position in football. Almost 40 years?? Dafuk were we thinking? This is bordering on a colossal fuckup that you cannot excuse. Just by accident we should have hit on at least one guy. Name one team that has gone as long as we have without a legit signal caller? Let me help you, you cannot. Even the Bears had a Punky QB for a few years.
