“Don’t like to see it,” Pierce said of losing Jacobs during his March 25 media availability at the NFL owners meetings, via ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. “I made it known – the heartbeat, a Raider through and through. But, as we all know, it’s a business. You hear that line … Money talks, BS walks, right? And he had to do what’s best for him and his family and I wish him the best, but that one hurt.”signal » Mon Mar 25, 2024 11:02 am
I would not say it safe to assume as this writer does that Pierce does not have much say, but it is an indication that TT, the GM does have the final say.Sold My Soul wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 10:55 am:“Don’t like to see it,” Pierce said of losing Jacobs during his March 25 media availability at the NFL owners meetings, via ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. “I made it known – the heartbeat, a Raider through and through. It appears that general manager Tom Telesco could’ve been the driving force behind the Raiders not re-signing Jacobs. It’s a clear indication that Pierce doesn’t have much say over roster decisions going forward.

Exactly. We may have still ended up with Garoppolo last year if the final word was Ziegler, but I bet Ziegler would have said no fucking way to that level of contract. Jacobs would be a Raider for the right price, but Telesco is clearly the grown-up in the room who determines what that price is. It's the one reason that I think he was the right choice for GM over Champ Kelly - someone has to be the calculating businessman and I think AP and Champ were too closely tied for that.signal wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 11:02 am:I would not say it safe to assume as this writer does that Pierce does not have much say, but it is an indication that TT, the GM does have the final say.
It is one thing to want a player and it is another to want him at a particular price. It is TT's job to bring in as much talent as possible given the realities of a cap and given that there will be players at a particular cost that are simply not going to be back. Not because TT does not like them or not because he does not take into account AP's input but simply because the cost is beyond what TT is willing to pay for said player.

Still early, but thus far TT has impressed me. A good GM would go a long way to helping the Raiders become consistently competitive and hopefully a perennial playoff team. Have not been impressed with the GMs in the last while so hopefully that got fixed with the TT hire.chucker wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 11:30 am:Exactly. I like to hear this because AP was stuck on stupid force feeding the running game that was not working.Sold My Soul wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 10:55 am:“Don’t like to see it,” Pierce said of losing Jacobs during his March 25 media availability at the NFL owners meetings, via ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. “I made it known – the heartbeat, a Raider through and through. AP does not either make up the offensive game plan nor does he call the plays during the game. They had a QB coach who had never called offensive plays in his life take over as OC when Josh was fired.crowbar wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 11:53 am:I like to hear this because AP was stuck on stupid force feeding the running game that was not working.
What was it the Buffalo game where Jacobs ended up with negative yardage?
Rewatched the Colts game a few days ago and AP was fundamentally stupid.
It's a damn good thing that the Raiders hired an assistant coach to help AP with game management.

AP has been head coach for a grand total of 9 games. Is anyone surprised he doesn’t have final say on personnel? That’s typically reserved for accomplished head coaches and even in those cases (see Gruden, Bill O’Brien, Jeff Fisher) it’s not always a good idea.Attyla » Mon Mar 25, 2024 1:40 pm
Very misdirected criticism for suresignal wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 12:01 pm:AP does not either make up the offensive game plan nor does he call the plays during the game. They had a QB coach who had never called offensive plays in his life take over as OC when Josh was fired.
So, I think you might want to redirect that criticism.
Does not everyone know that AP was a defensive coach before becoming a HC? I mean really this is just silly.

What mistakes exactly did you see him execute when he was not calling the offensive plays since he was a defensive assistant before being thrown into the deep end? He did not call the offense at all.crowbar wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 1:42 pm:The Vikings game was the straw that broke the camels back.
We will see if the assistants can correct AP's mistakes.
Then I will be onboard again.

Time management and when to go for two points. He also choked on 4th down calls.Attyla wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 1:49 pm:What mistakes exactly did you see him execute when he was not calling the offensive plays since he was a defensive assistant before being thrown into the deep end?
