A safety is crazy now with the set up zones staying the same. If you don't have a good kicker, that is going to really hurt.signal » Tue Mar 26, 2024 10:30 am
The new kickoff rule has passed and well, the kickoff in football will look entirely different in 2024.signal » Tue Mar 26, 2024 11:02 am
Must admit I too am looking forward to seeing what happens with this because usually every kick off in football is a non-event. This might make the play one that is actually entertaining to watch.DanKD wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 10:36 am:Kickoff rule is good. An actual way to increase safety and excitement. They need to change onside kick too

The only thing I question on the kickoff rule is touch-backs if the ball is in the air go to the 35? That's pretty generous. Seems like you are looking for a kicker that lands the ball right before the end-zone. The rest is a lot better than what they had last year.signal » Tue Mar 26, 2024 11:23 am
Yes, strategy as to how to approach these changes is right now the job of every special teams coordinator. It will be interesting to see how this rule changes strategy....so many factors to take into consideration.SkullCrusher wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 11:16 am:The only thing I question on the kickoff rule is touch-backs if the ball is in the air go to the 35? When they say nobody can move...... do they mean they have to stay stationary, or that they can't move out of their zone?signal wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 10:30 am:The new kickoff rule has passed and well, the kickoff in football will look entirely different in 2024.
During the 2024 season, kickers will continue to kick from the 35-yard line, but the other 10 players on the kickoff team will line up at the receiving team's 40-yard line. At least nine members of the return team will line up in a "setup zone" between the 35- and 30-yard lines. Up to two returners can line up in a "landing zone" between the goal line and the 20-yard line.
No one other than the kicker and returner(s) can move until the ball hits the ground or hits a player inside the landing zone. Touchbacks will be marked at the 30-yard line, and no fair catches will be allowed. In the event a team wants to attempt an onside kick, it will have to inform officials of its intent and would then be allowed to use the NFL's traditional formation. No surprise onside kicks will be allowed.

Given these huge changes, special team coordinators and those players on special teams will have a lot of work to do in preparation for the season.

I took it to mean that they have to get into position for the kick...plant their feet and then are unable to move until of course the ball hits either the player or the field.chucker wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 1:33 pm:When they say nobody can move...... do they mean they have to stay stationary, or that they can't move out of their zone?

We're the NFL let's ripoff the XLF and pretend we didn't.chucker » Tue Mar 26, 2024 1:50 pm
Yep. I don't mind at all if they copy something good from the XFL or whatever - just don't pretend you didn't. Show a commitment to improving the game with any means available to you.AdamJoshua28 wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 1:47 pm:We're the NFL let's ripoff the XLF and pretend we didn't.
What's next running back and 3 receivers that can be in motion before the snap. This motion can be lateral or it can be towards the line of scrimmage, or something else groundbreaking, eh?

If the XFL didn't patent it, their loss. XFL/USFL probably likes it, we're the trend setters league!AdamJoshua28 wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 1:47 pm:We're the NFL let's ripoff the XLF and pretend we didn't.
