I addressed this earlier in the week, you can't draft player "X" that you have a need for at #13 when he is #65 on your board. Of course this is an exaggerated example of this but it stands true. There's a couple of members here that thought we should have went CB at 13 and not select Bowers. But when you look at where the first CB in the draft was selected (#22) that tells you that the majority of teams didn't see them either as worthy of a top pick and certainly not where we were selected.rich72 wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 9:59 pm:Im still in disbelief that we chose a TE over spots we needed.

Multiple boards I frequent never had Penix in the first round much less the top 10 and the falcons selected him at 8. It was a major shock but because you are in love with him you had him graded higher than any other reputable board out there. Now, because of your problem with reading comprehension let me make this clear... that does not mean it won't work out for them but it does mean is was a major shock that nobody saw coming.
So you’ve been talking “boards” and I’ve been talking “mocks”. In fact, on the first mock I found with your PFF link, they have Penix going #12th in the 1st.GoodTimeCharlie wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 9:07 pm:Haven’t seen him outside a 1st round mock in months. If not for Purdy the Niners would have issues. They traded a lot for Lance.GoodTimeCharlie wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 11:44 pm: So you’ve been talking “boards” and I’ve been talking “mocks”. In fact, on the first mock I found with your PFF link, they have Penix going #12th in the 1st.
Though I am reminded now that you’re the dude constantly peddling the horseshit about how the 9’ers Trey Lance trade will ruin them “someday” in the “future”. World’s still waiting on that one ain’t it? Maybe one day the 9’ers will fall back to the middle and you’ll try to pin it on the ol’ Lance trade. Good luck with that.
You got what you’ve been wanting. AO only needs to beat out Minshew and the Raiders can get right back to being a non-playoff team stuck in the middle of the draft year after year after year.

And all those traded picks have been used. The only draft pick unused with relation to Lance is the one the 9’ers gained from trading Lance to the Cowboys.RaiderandBulldog wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 11:47 pm:If not for Purdy the Niners would have issues. They traded a lot for Lance.

Just waking up to draft on my side of the pond. Definitely didn’t see this coming! But looking at how draft panned out, I reckon we couldn’t believe our luck he fell to us and just took BPA. All the talk is of a really deep OL class so hopefully we’ll get the “need” a bit lower down.16 to 88 » Fri Apr 26, 2024 12:47 am
I have been talking big boards. I'm not a fan of mock drafts. Mocks as you know, or should I say, as you should know, are nothing more than people guessing which player a team will select. Big boards like the one I posted for you is where PFF ranks them as a player. They had on there final big board Penix rated as the 36th best player in the draft. So Atlanta according to PFF and many other boards that I have found to be reputable throughout the years selected a player that was ranked in the 2nd round at pick #8.GoodTimeCharlie wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 11:44 pm: So you’ve been talking “boards” and I’ve been talking “mocks”. lol! You could be right! I'm not going to argue that it's just a hunch. They could overcome it but I don't think Purdy is the QB that many others do and I have no doubt missing out on all those picks they could of had instead of Lance... certainly didn't help them! And no doubt whatsoever if they could have a draft redo they wouldn't have selected Lance and taken other players that could be bolstering their roster.Though I am reminded now that you’re the dude constantly peddling the horseshit about how the 9’ers Trey Lance trade will ruin them “someday” in the “future”. You see, it's garbage like this that is the problem with this board. You take something I have never stated and in turn it becomes a life of it's own. It's and out and out LIE. But, you keep on being you. As stated time and again by me, and one more time for the record I like Adian and think he is better then some give him credit for. But I want whoever is the best quarterback for this team... period. You got what you’ve been wanting. Remember the Cle Ferrell pick? He wasn't ranked on any big board anywhere near where we picked him. See how that works?

Nah, what the 49er's did should be taken as a warning to us all.GoodTimeCharlie wrote Thu Apr 25, 2024 11:58 pm:And all those traded picks have been used. The only draft pick unused with relation to Lance is the one the 9’ers gained from trading Lance to the Cowboys.
They are fine. They are constantly in the playoffs and even some Super Bowls. It was a miss, sure, but what, better to have never tried than to have tried at all? That’s sure working out for us.

You’re right. Don’t go down swingin’. Stay on the bench. Failing at something is an absolute confidence killer.rich72 wrote Fri Apr 26, 2024 2:12 am: Nah, what the 49er's did should be taken as a warning to us all.

We didn't snooze, if you were paying attention, picks were coming in a fast pace mostly, teams were not spending a lot of time listening to offers and were absolutely content to pick the guys they had targeted.

I'm baffled at the people that don't like this pick. Not only did we get a top 5, yes top 5, talent but we got an elite (arguably generational) weapon. We will not, I repeat NOT need Brock Bowers to block. I wanted a QB, that's no secret but we got arguably the best pass catcher in this draft and the absolute BPA that is a mismatch nightmare. So glad we didn't get take of the mediocre corners. The corner I like the best, Cooper Dejean is still available. If we can grab him, it will be a slam dunk A+ first 2 rounds. Him or Cooper Beebe at guard.Hellbound » Fri Apr 26, 2024 5:02 am
Just goes to show that people follow the media echo chamber way to close. Realistically none of the top 5ish picks were for sale. After that, it probably wasn't worth it to trade up. Bowers was a consensus top 5 talent and everyone said there's going to be some blue chip players that fall because of qb fomo. AP also talked up O'Connell and Minshew was signed so reading between the lines, they were happy with the qb situationAttyla wrote Fri Apr 26, 2024 4:21 am:We didn't snooze, if you were paying attention, picks were coming in a fast pace mostly, teams were not spending a lot of time listening to offers and were absolutely content to pick the guys they had targeted.
