Max will change all that. The Raiders have a good culture right now and its because of Crosby.rich72 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:00 pm: He said Brocks lack of excitement, not his dads.

Incorrect, the first corner selected was at #22. That means 21 other teams didn't select a corner. Clearly, that means if we had drafted a corner at 13 we would have reached for one. Now if a couple of picks had gone by and then somebody selected a corner at say 15 that's a different case altogether. And now my disclaimer, that of course does not mean that Mitchell will not be a good CB this just illustrates that taking a corner at #13 when the first one to be drafted was at selection #22 means you would have selected him way to early.GUYDON wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:28 am:My only thing about that was, the best corner was also on the board, which was a need and would not have been a reach at 13. So you could have got a player of need, best at his position, and not reached.
Other than that, Bowers was a great pick and gives us a lot of firepower and flexibility.
I love the play, wasnt big on the pick at tue time, but have definitely warmed to it.

So you want the Raiders to follow rather than lead?16 to 88 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:36 pm:Incorrect, the first corner selected was at #22. That means 21 other teams didn't select a corner. I know that. But there were rumors his dad was upset.rich72 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:00 pm: He said Brocks lack of excitement, not his dads.

You don’t pass on a consensus top 5 football player at 13. The guy is a weapon. Look what laporta did for the lions and even to slightly lesser extent Kincaid did for the bills. This guy should be better than both.WolfRaider » Thu May 02, 2024 2:40 am
I think they see what the rookies look like first. The are loads on the market so no rush just yet.KillerRaider30 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 4:32 pm:I think we need a vet corner and I think its 50/50 we sign one. I mean we did pretty good last year and we lost only Amik who I liked. Amik is a dog

I don't mind the idea of adding a vet like Xavien Howard, but 2024 Howard is a likely just a stopgap in case young guys don't develop. 2020 Howard was a game-changer and the current version is not.WolfRaider wrote Thu May 02, 2024 2:40 am:I think they see what the rookies look like first. But if can get Xavier Howard this defence looks ridiculous

Top corners can be a bust, where I believe Brock is a guaranteed blue chip home run.RunOverByHubbard » Thu May 02, 2024 6:53 am
I don’t want another stopgap. We wasted time and money with Marcus Peters last season. I’d rather roll the dice with youth.chucker wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:18 am:I don't mind the idea of adding a vet like Xavien Howard, but 2024 Howard is a likely just a stopgap in case young guys don't develop. 2020 Howard was a game-changer and the current version is not.

One of Bowers' competitive advantages in college was how hard he was to tackle and he got a ton of yards after catch, but included in that was a lot of yards after contact. It will be interesting to see how much of a factor the yards after contact are once he hits the NFL level. He played very high level competition in college so it's not as big a transition if he were coming from a weak conference but it's still a real step up.Amish Cabal » Thu May 02, 2024 7:49 am
This is a bit out of left field, but the Chiefs signed that freakish rugby player from Wales, who's athleticism reminds me a lot of Bowers. Curious to see how Andy uses him (if he makes the team). I think that's key, how we use him.KillerRaider30 » Fri May 03, 2024 10:59 am
Brock vs a 180lb slot corner good luckAttyla » Fri May 03, 2024 11:22 am
Not to possibly taint the conversation but with Bowers and Mayer we really have a setup much like the Patriots did with Gronkowski and Hernandez. No one asked Gronk to block, but Hernandez was actually quite good at it, both could catch the ball very well. Gronk was obviously the more athletic. Brady was able to chew up defenses in the middle of the field because a team could cover one, but when both were on the field, they just did not have the defensive ability to cover both, and cover the RB out of the backfield and the receivers. We have the better wing receiver and a very good slot receiver who further messes up coverages. There is not a defense out there that has the personnel to keep all of those guys covered very long. If Minshew is back there, then you add in his run threat. If O'Connell is back there we beefed up the line to enable him to do his thing. All we have to do is scheme this thing so that they just do not have the horses to keep up with us.16 to 88 » Fri May 03, 2024 8:38 pm
Noooooo. I clearly stated that 21 other teams didn't select a CB even though they had a chance too. 8 teams after us selected another position. Had we selected Mitchell at 13 we now know it would have been 9 spots to high... and... AND... we would of passed on Bowers who was a consensus top 5 pick.Archaic wrote Wed May 01, 2024 9:26 pm:So you want the Raiders to follow rather than lead?
The truth is that picking a corner with the 13th pick (or for that matter the number 1 overall pick) is not a 'reach' if that player ends up a great producer and mainstay starting player for the next decade.
