Exactly what I have been pointing out. Even the best defenses in the NFL are going to have trouble trying to cover everyone. Adams alone requires double coverage. Now that we are in a WCO quick hitters will be the order of the day. Loads of 3 step drops and bam! OL won't have to block for very long. Jet sweeps and jet sweep motions to drive the defenses crazy. If #12 is in under center play action fakes all day long freezing the LB's. Really looking forward to this offense...Attyla wrote Fri May 03, 2024 11:22 am:Not to possibly taint the conversation but with Bowers and Mayer we really have a setup much like the Patriots did with Gronkowski and Hernandez. No one asked Gronk to block, but Hernandez was actually quite good at it, both could catch the ball very well. Gronk was obviously the more athletic. Brady was able to chew up defenses in the middle of the field because a team could cover one, but when both were on the field, they just did not have the defensive ability to cover both, and cover the RB out of the backfield and the receivers. We have the better wing receiver and a very good slot receiver who further messes up coverages. There is not a defense out there that has the personnel to keep all of those guys covered very long. If Minshew is back there, then you add in his run threat. If O'Connell is back there we beefed up the line to enable him to do his thing. All we have to do is scheme this thing so that they just do not have the horses to keep up with us.
From that aspect, we do not need a great QB to run this. We need great scheme. We can seek the great QB next year.

All these plans make sense on paper and comparing Brady/Gronk/Hernandez to AOC/Bowers/Meyer... counting chickens. But yes it it works that can be nice. Team should be quite different on offense.16 to 88 wrote Fri May 03, 2024 8:47 pm:Exactly what I have been pointing out. I have no idea, were the Pats using Gronkowski and Hernandez mostly in 2 TE sets or were they lining one of them up in a different spot? I see us doing the latter more than the former.SkullCrusher wrote Fri May 03, 2024 9:21 pm:All these plans make sense on paper and comparing Brady/Gronk/Hernandez to AOC/Bowers/Meyer... counting chickens. they rarely kept both tight to the line, Gronk was often slotted. I doubt we keep both tight to the line either. But you employ different sets and motion to muddy things up vs the defense. Thing people have to remember is this: The offense will know what they are doing, the defense will be trying to guess. Knowing gives us the advantage. The job is to execute.Jeevo wrote Fri May 03, 2024 9:54 pm:I have no idea, were the Pats using Gronkowski and Hernandez mostly in 2 TE sets or were they lining one of them up in a different spot? Last season, especially under Josh McD, running plays appeared to announce themselves before the snap of the ball. Hopefully with the heavier sets, the Raiders will pass as many times as they run...making that announcement prior to the snap of the ball no longer.RickRyb wrote Sat May 04, 2024 9:01 am:It's also a HUGE plus if a team can run several different plays from the same formation. I think with both Bowers and Mayers in, The Raiders will be able to do that.

Poor Jacobs was often fucked before the ball was even snapped. Also had a lot to do with teams’ lack of respect for our air game.signal wrote Sat May 04, 2024 10:08 am:Last season, especially under Josh McD, running plays appeared to announce themselves before the snap of the ball. As much as the addition of Bowers will really help the passing game, it may also help the run game.

Yes, teams did press and that sure in hell did not help, but like you say, Jacobs simply had no chance as every defender on the field knew he was getting the damn ball. I think most of us experienced that pre snap dread knowing full well what was going to happen next. When you telegraph the run play with personnel and formation and do that on a regular occasion......defenders are going to catch on and are going to find ways to stuff that shit up.Jeevo wrote Sat May 04, 2024 10:11 am:Poor Jacobs was often fucked before the ball was even snapped. To be clear, I never compared Brady/Gronk/Hernandez to us anywhere. They also ran a different offensive system under McDaniels. Both players and system... completely different. What i'm pointing out and gives me the notion that we will be much improved is gone are Jimmy G, McD and that system and we have done a complete 180 offensively. We were 27th in yards and 23rd in points last year with all the chaos surrounding the team. Gotta believe and I certainly hope we will be much improved this year. And as always the "X" factors are the schedule, the officiating, injuries and possibly even more so then last year... field position with the new kick off rule.SkullCrusher wrote Fri May 03, 2024 9:21 pm:All these plans make sense on paper and comparing Brady/Gronk/Hernandez to AOC/Bowers/Meyer... counting chickens. Getsy was pretty creative moving Kmet around so I don’t have any worries about Bowers not being put in a position to succeed. The only thing that may affect his production is that there’s only one ball to go around with another pass catching TE and solid group of WR’s.BigJerk » Sat May 04, 2024 5:57 pm

Then how come Zamir White came in and looked very good after Jacobs was benched?Jeevo wrote Sat May 04, 2024 10:11 am:Poor Jacobs was often fucked before the ball was even snapped. Also had a lot to do with teams’ lack of respect for our air game.

We were mostly talking about the Raiders under Josh McD. The rookie OC did come in offer up some wrinkles and called games far less predictable and AO12 was able to pass the ball further than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage so teams did press less.rich72 wrote Sun May 05, 2024 3:26 am: Then how come Zamir White came in and looked very good after Jacobs was benched?
