The most important factor moving forward for the offense is the OL.Amish Cabal wrote Sun May 05, 2024 6:40 am:I agree.
I can can see us having a hair trigger with Getsy this year. First sign of an anemic offense and the Fire Getsy thread will be born.

Yes sir! Brock Bowers is going to own the middle of the field on those bitches.RickRyb wrote Sat May 04, 2024 9:01 am:It's also a HUGE plus if a team can run several different plays from the same formation. I think with both Bowers and Mayers in, The Raiders will be able to do that.

A QBs best friend is a strong running game. That little but well known axiom is repeated because it is true.
The Raiders by every metric had one of the worst run offenses in the league in 2023. And much of that is because of a soft OL.
The biggest factor moving into 2024 is if the OL can own the line of scrimmage or not and whether the Raiders can develop a strong running attack. If so, then yes, the Raider QB ( whomever that may be) will produce and the weapons will eat.
I think if the OL in 2024 really improves, Getsy and the entire offense will have success.

This goes beyond giving one an idea of what OC12 was up against last year. Throw in the fact he was a rookie with a new HC and a fill in OC who had never been an OC in the NFL and still isn't along with McDaniels revised playbook...The Condor wrote Sun May 05, 2024 9:02 am:Yup
But some would have you believe that one stat - "top 10 OL" - meant things were "literally fine" as we approached the draft.
Mind blowing really, when our own GM & HC recently said themselves ;
"“Our offensive line has a lot of holes,” Telesco noted at the event in Indianapolis. “We have to figure that all out. It’s going to be a collaborative effort among the coaching staff and personnel staff to get this thing moving.”
“I would like to build this team — I think me and Telesco see it the same way — in the trenches,” Pierce similarly said. “We can go and get skill guys and get the quarterback. But, hell, if nobody’s blocking for ’em, what does it matter? I would love to see us really be sound up front.”"

JPJ is part of the solution. Glaze may or may not be. But the above acknowledges the issue, and that work remains to be done.

Yeah, pretty much the complete opposite of putting him in a position to succeed.16 to 88 wrote Sun May 05, 2024 9:55 pm:This goes beyond giving one an idea of what OC12 was up against last year. Damn, that be cold. I am so glad that Josh McD is gone. He is a terrible coach and really has a lot to learn about how to deal with people. The Condor wrote Mon May 06, 2024 1:53 am:Yeah, pretty much the complete opposite of putting him in a position to succeed.
According to Hondo, AO wasn’t even taking first team reps for much of the week before his first start, as JM was planning to start Hoyer. Until JM made a late decision to go with AO instead, but did nothing to alter the system to help him.
What could possibly go wrong…??!

This is music to my ears. I keep pounding the drum for the OL because I do think it is pivotal in both the pass and run game. And I do think Telesco recognizes it as well and think it probable that he will make another move to help fortify the OL further before the beginning of the season. The Condor wrote Sun May 05, 2024 9:02 am:Yup

CBS has a story called "Picks we should have seen coming" and it include Bowers:signal » Mon May 06, 2024 11:17 am
Lost me in the first damn sentence. I call bullshit. Every vibe I get from the Raiders, every fucking move they have made...tells me they are serious about making the playoffs next season.RunOverByHubbard wrote Mon May 06, 2024 10:10 am:CBS has a story called "Picks we should have seen coming" and it include Bowers:
TE Brock Bowers, Georgia: Raiders (Round 1, No. 13 overall)
Las Vegas is not expected to factor into the AFC Playoff picture this coming season. In that sense, it makes sense for the organization to think about the future and select the best player available, which was Bowers in that instance. Bowers is not a traditional tight end. He can be split out wide and be used in formations with last year's second round selection Michael Mayer.
Where the choice gets a bit confusing is squaring the club's interest in preparing for the future while keeping aged veterans like wide receiver Davante Adams and signing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. Unless they have been unable to find common ground with opposing teams in Adams trade conversations, it makes little sense to carry the 31-year-old into the season if he would fetch draft capital that can help the organization down the road.

As for the rest....playoff team or not...the draft is always about the future and less about immediate needs. It matters very little if the team thinks they are playoff bound or not...if a player falls in your lap and you and most of the football world consider him the best damn player on the board....you take him.
Frankly I find the analysis silly .... written by someone who does not understand or appreciate the Raiders' expectations in 2024 and simply does not understand the purpose of the draft.

Yeah Hondo's slow, ponderous delivery isn't exactly compulsive viewing16 to 88 wrote Mon May 06, 2024 11:17 pm:Thanks I have never seen this. Eye opener for the amount I watched which was a record for me when it comes to watching Hondo.

Rewatched Bower’s highlights today and it is WOW. He is excellent after the catch and can get fairly deep on patterns. Great compliment to Mayer. I am starting to love our receiving corps. The running game needs work though.
