LOL! That was funny. The paper bag emoji. Like, well, I’ll answer your question, but I’m embarrassed to be involved in this conversation.Raider727 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 12:40 am:That Powers won't be a hall of fame center, if he begins his career in the NFL as a guard.

Yeah maybe, a lot of projections had him @ G.WolfRaider wrote Wed May 01, 2024 5:23 am:The O-line expert guy actually really likes our 3rd round pick as a Gaurd. So we might see him be a swing tackle/Gaurd this year while he transitions inside

If he continues his progression and improvement and plays as well, or better than last year (74.6 PFF grade) he will have earned more respect and recognition. If he reverts to his previous levels (64.8 & 62.8) there is a good chance they’ll look to upgrade, which with JPJ is a more viable option.raider_kin wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:22 am:Why are people having such a hard time understanding that James is a top ten ranked center? Some of you have said that he just doesn't "look like" a top rated center. Well, those who know more than you say he is top ten rated.
Parham a weak link at guard if he is undersized? Yes. James a weak link at center. No.

Even going back to his draft analysis on NFL.com, Parham "Feels like a small guard from a mass standpoint." Not sure any of that has changed.CWood24 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 9:27 pm:James is a Top 10 Centre in the NFL
Parham plays at 315 he is not the 285 that they list him as
You do know that 315 is right on the average of NFL OL add in the fact that NFL IDL on average are just a tad under 310
People need to stop making shit up because of the fabled eye test

I posted James’ yearly PFF grades and asked a valid question; can he maintain last years’ performance?CWood24 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 9:27 pm:James is a Top 10 Centre in the NFL

Hopefully Parham adds strength this offseason. He's only 24 years old and still developing. With three potential centers on the IOL hopefully we have guys well-schooled enough to manage stunts and avoid having guys blocking air.signal » Thu May 02, 2024 6:29 am
There is always that possibility. But damn, I really hope he is on a wild diet and workout routine that will greatly impact his ability to knock defenders back.chucker wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:13 am:Hopefully Parham adds strength this offseason. Oregon offensive line coach A’lique Terry is asked: "What will be the lasting memory of Jackson Powers-Johnson?"https://www.silverandblackpride.com/202 ... nson-guard“His presence every day,” Terry said without hesitation in a recent telephone interview with Silver and Black Pride. “He was exactly what you wanted in an offensive lineman. He brought the same presence every day, whether it was spring practice, the summer or the season. He was the type of player that his defensive teammates thought he was a (jerk) because the way he practiced every day. But when the season started, they all loved him because they saw what he did to other teams. That’s what you want in an offensive lineman.”
That’s one of the reasons why Terry smiled when Powers-Johnson was taken by the Las Vegas Raiders in the second round with the No. 44 overall pick. There was an expectation that Powers-Johnson would be a late first-round pick, but Terry thinks the player is where he should be.
“We were praying that he would be a first-round pick, but you don’t know what NFL front offices are thinking and how the draft ends up,” Terry said. “But he’s really where he should be ... It’s almost the perfect fit for him in terms of the violent, physical history of the position for the franchise. He’s perfect for the Raider Nation. He’s almost like an old-school Richie Incognito player ... He has that mean streak and plays to wear down his opponent every play.”
Terry is confident that Powers-Johnson can have immediate success at guard and he is pleased the player is starting there.
...“Honestly, I think it’s better for his future to start at guard,” Terry said. “He can just go in and play and not worry about everything that goes into being a center at that level. I think he can be a great center, but he can now step in and just use his power and skills and get to work.”

People want to just replace things for the sake of replacing things sometimes, alot of the talk i saw was we have our starting C for the next 10 years & that it was time to get rid of James not thinking it creates another holesignal wrote Thu May 02, 2024 4:54 am:Even going back to his draft analysis on NFL.com, Parham "Feels like a small guard from a mass standpoint." Those of us that are critical of him are not necessarily stating that he is awful or anything, but simply stating that he is not a mauler in the run game. We want an OL built that can play smash mouth football from the first whistle to the last. One that can wear down a defensive line. Also I think most of us would love to have players at the guard position that make 3rd and 1 less of worrisome affair. Two bulldozers at the guard positions will impact a game.
The OL is the engine of the offense but it is only as strong as its weakest link.
I am uncertain whether TT will be able to find that other bulldozer in the remaining months of the offseason, but I do hope he tries.

Everything should work on a year to year basis, make people earn there spot
James has played his way into being the starting C for now that said if he underperforms this coming season then the conversation about replacing him should be had
Parham is inconsistent & that needs to change if he can’t get it together under Getsy then that a convo that needs to be had as well
Just getting rid of Parham & James or even moving them isn't an option right now like some seem to think
We have legit 4 starters right now with an open competition at RT between Munford, Glaze & maybe Wagner which will be interesting

The Raiders best and most important draft pick, considering he's a center with All-Pro potential.raiderjohn » Thu May 02, 2024 3:14 pm
Agreed, we re-signed James on the eve of free agency, because the price tag on interior lineman was very high. Losing Van Roten, we signed Whitehair late in free agency, drafted Powers Johnson gives us competition in camp. Given the contract and dead money, James should be here in 2025. But if JPJ comes out guns a blazing in camp, center job might be his in 2025. Parham has another year to run on his rookie deal and will be starting at LG. With new offensive staff everyone is on watch and must come out to play. 2025 is another animal.CWood24 wrote Thu May 02, 2024 9:39 am:People want to just replace things for the sake of replacing things sometimes, alot of the talk i saw was we have our starting C for the next 10 years & that it was time to get rid of James not thinking it creates another hole
