One person nobody's mentioned and I thing deserves a big amount of credit is Mark Davis.silver_ghost » Mon Apr 29, 2024 11:46 pm
I know we are going to get 3 bonafide starters from this years draft. Try saying that about draft from previous years.Raidernation1979 wrote Sat Apr 27, 2024 3:26 pm:I know some hate the draft but I like it. Some good value picks. We either had to go big and get a big name qb or stay small and bolster all levels of the roster. I think we got easily 2 day 1 starters. A few solid day 1 contributors and a developmental guy or 2.

Yeah, The turnip shuffled into the war room, nodded a greeting to TT, AP and the Senior Scouts, before regaling them with nostalgic tales from his youth about Casper.Archaic wrote Mon Apr 29, 2024 6:58 pm:Maybe Bowers will be able to catch lots of passes the way Dave Casper did, which is what Mark Davis remembers and why he drafted a TE with the Raiders first pick.

Blocking grades per PFF. Looks like Glaze is pretty something for a "reach."Archaic » Tue Apr 30, 2024 4:14 am
I understand some fans consider Bowers to be "more than a TE". For example a few years ago Mike Gesicki caught lots of passes for the Dolphins so he was perceived more as a receiver than a TE. But he didn't block very well so one could question if that enhances or detracts from the TE position.chucker wrote Mon Apr 29, 2024 7:32 pm:If we had drafted a traditional TE at 13, I'd likely have been disappointed. Just like no regular RB is worth $16 million, or whatever McCaffery makes - but McCaffery is worth it because he's more. Bowers was worth the pick because he's more. Not everyone fits into a neat little box.

Raider greats like Casper, Chester , Christensen caught passes but also did their job of blocking, so hopefully Bowers will carry on that tradition.

Mark hired all the guys you are congratulating him for firing. And the new guys have not yet played a game.ELCAraiderfan wrote Mon Apr 29, 2024 10:45 pm:One person nobody's mentioned and I thing deserves a big amount of credit is Mark Davis.
I know a lot of us having been giving him shit and rightly so for some years now. But I've got to give him credit now for getting rid of that loser McD, putting AP in as interim, then keeping him as Head Coach. Then shit canning the former FO and hiring TT and the current FO group. Maybe he had some guidance, but Mark these moves you made I listed here finally seem to be solid. Time will tell of course. But after so many years of shitting drafting, seeing TT and this years draft, damn, feels pretty good and hopeful. Thanks Mark, I hope it works out for all of us Silver & Black!

But from the analysis of his play in college that I have read or listened to...he can do that also.BoKnows81 wrote Tue Apr 30, 2024 4:20 am:We don't need Bowers to block

Exactly, that's the other part of it. He actually CAN block. He may not be an elite blocker but who cares. He's a more than adequate blocker.signal wrote Tue Apr 30, 2024 5:20 am:But from the analysis of his play in college that I have read or listened to...he can do that also.
That said, you are right, he was drafted to catch and run and he did a hell of a lot of that in college. More than that he looks to be a huge target in the redzone and the Raiders needed one to add to the mix.

A misty eyed Davis then boldly proclaimed “I don’t care what you lot think, it’s my fucking team, and I’m picking the Ghost 2”
True story.

I agree.signal wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 5:21 am:Anything said about a draft the day after has to been taken with a grain of salt. We all know that it will take 2 to 3 years before we really know how good this draft was.
That said, my early thoughts: the Raiders are a team that needed help offensively. The Raiders came out of this draft with the #1 TE and the #1 G in the draft. So, while not reaching for need by any means, TT was still able to bring in two players who could be difference makers on the offense.
The next two picks were OT and CB and were players who both possess a lot of upside. Glaze is a player who has shown a lot of improvement of late and obviously shot up TT's and the scouting department's board and Richardson is a physical specimen with an unusual blend of length, speed and a very good tackler if not one of the best tacklers at his position in the draft.
I REALLY like the first four picks, and also really like the Eichenberg pick because he reminds me of Spillane.... a tough hard nosed run stopper who is a punishing tackler.
I love this draft and think TT found some pieces that will make the Raiders better next year but more importantly, into the future.

Absolutely!chucker wrote Sun Apr 28, 2024 11:04 am:I think the biggest flaw in how this is laid out is that they list 3 starting LBs and 2 starting CBs. On the offensive side they more accurately list 3 starting WRs, although in reality we'll likely have just 2 because I'm sure the plan is for both Mayer and Bowers to be starting "TEs".

Definitely a good draft, I know you can’t address all your needs in one season, but I think it was a mistake not taking advantage of such a deep WR class. With the exception of Tucker there is no deep threat on our team. Hopefully Bowers will be tearing it up so bad between the hashes that it doesn’t matter.MexicanHulk » Wed May 01, 2024 9:28 am
I haven’t given my opinion on the draft as a whole but, I somewhat agree with this. You only take one if a good one falls to you. One that shoulda been taken was, Troy Franklin. I actually liked him more than X.Worthy &, he fell to the 4th!! I wish they woulda took Franklin & RB Ray Davis in the 4th. Ake one then traded back up into the 4th for the other (Davis).BoJacksonRules wrote Tue Apr 30, 2024 5:35 pm:Definitely a good draft, I know you can’t address all your needs in one season, but I think it was a mistake not taking advantage of such a deep WR class.
