May the best man win.SkullCrusher » Mon Apr 29, 2024 8:53 pm
If a QB proves he's good to be the starter for your team for multi-years, he's going to get paid a good chunk on that multi-year contract. When they are still trying to prove they can be that QB, that's where you get a deal. We so shit the bed with Garapalo.Archaic wrote Mon Apr 29, 2024 6:52 pm:I don't like the concept of "franchise QB". They are overpaid for too many years which hurts a team's ability to consistently win games. Carr was labeled "franchise QB" and his presence for too many years hurt the Raiders.
If Minshew can take the Raiders to the playoffs this coming season that's a good thing; no need to put a label on him and, or sign him to a longer term contract. Same goes for AOC.

Okay but in the last 10 years there's been exactly 1 Superbowl winner (Eagles with Foles) that didn't have a franchise QB on the roster taking up a significant amount of cap space. To find a Superbowl winner that straight up didn't have a "franchise" QB even on their rookie deal you'd be going back to Brad Johnson with the Bucs and now the PTSD is hitting hard so thanks for making me relive that game!Archaic wrote Mon Apr 29, 2024 6:52 pm:I don't like the concept of "franchise QB". The COACH would have been great, if he couda taught TP how to throw.Archaic wrote Mon Apr 29, 2024 4:07 pm:When Raiders running QB is discussed I think about Terrelle Pryor. If the Raiders had a QB coach to teach TP throwing technique he could have been great.

I remember when we signed Gannon. I was living in Seattle at the time and had flown back east for the weekend and on my return flight had a layover in Indy. Happened to be the weekend of the Combine. Guy beside me on the plane back to Seattle happened to be a Seattle assistant coach. He talked football the entire flight. Wouldn't shut up. When he found out I was a Raiders fan he couldn't stop talking about how lucky we were to be getting Gannon and about how Gannon was by far the best free agent, and how he was going to great player for the Raiders.GUYDON wrote Mon Apr 29, 2024 7:12 pm:Gannon was 10 years in to his career when he got to the Raiders, he had been with 3 other team beforehand. He had never thrown for over 2700 yards. He was hot garbage. And became league MVP
So you never know.

Nothing warms the cockles like legitimate information devoid of all the “hot takey” agenda-driven bullshit.chucker wrote Mon Apr 29, 2024 7:25 pm:The game was just beginning to accept the idea of a running QB back then - 200 yards used to be a good rushing number for a QB. He also was only a starter for about half that career - he took some time to develop into a quality starter. He also led all QBs in rushing one of those years. Gannon was fast enough and athletic enough that when the Pats drafted him they wanted to convert him to either RB or DB.
So yes Gannon was a very good running QB in his day.

You need a real franchise QB to win in this league with incredibly rare exceptions.

Dak Prescott will be a free agent next year unless the Cowboys give him a new contract. That is looking unlikely at the moment.signal » Tue Apr 30, 2024 7:17 am
No, I would not.Bram_Raider wrote Tue Apr 30, 2024 7:10 am:Dak Prescott will be a free agent next year unless the Cowboys give him a new contract. That is looking unlikely at the moment.
Would you give up two 1st round choices to get ahead of a free agency sweepstakes?
Been thinking, if I am Telesco it would place a major marker down. Dak is probably going to play another 7 or 8 seasons.

I like Dak but why would anyone trade first round picks to end up paying him as much, or more, than he would have gotten in FA? Trade picks for him and now he knows you have to sign him regardless of the cost so you give his agent all the leverage in the world.Dark Horse » Tue Apr 30, 2024 7:41 am
