The QB has to extend the play when passing if needed. That means when nothing is happening down field he needs to move to have a better angle with one wr whose in a scramble drill bc he sees whats happening.Attyla » Thu May 02, 2024 5:08 am
The main reason I think Minshew might end up the starter is simply that Minshew seems to spread the ball around more. In 2023 no returning player outside of Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers reached 30 catches or 400 yards for the Raiders. The Colts, who arguably had a weaker receiving corps had four with 30 catches and 3 with 400 yards or more.signal » Thu May 02, 2024 5:40 am
Last year's stats really are not factoring into my thinking. AO4 only played half a season and did it with a rookie OC while not being prepped in any way for the job. Hell, most rookie QBs stats are not held up as a defining feature of what the player will achieve with the exception of possibly Stroud. So to compare AO4's rookie stats with a player who has been in the league for years seems to be rather unfair especially given the circumstances surrounding AO4's rookie season.Attyla wrote Thu May 02, 2024 5:08 am:The main reason I think Minshew might end up the starter is simply that Minshew seems to spread the ball around more. To counter, Minshew was the backup in Indy, and had very few reps with the starters before being thrust into the starter role. We all deal with the circumstances we are forced into, Minshew's experience is surely a factor in his ability to scan the field and deliver, but that very factor is what makes me think he might get the starting job. And to say O'Connell was not prepped in any way? I would sharply disagree with that.signal wrote Thu May 02, 2024 5:40 am:Last year's stats really are not factoring into my thinking. I have no idea who will start, but I do hope it is AO4 for the simple reason that we do know what Minshew brings to the table and if AO4 beats him out, then we know AO4 has taken huge steps forward in his development and that can only be a good thing for the Raiders QB situation.
That said, if I had to pick one, I do think AO4 ends up the starter in 2024.

AO4 was a third string QB and was the emergency QB (not even placed on the starting squad)...you can disagree all you want, but that is not ideal circumstances for being prepped to start. But whatever.Attyla wrote Thu May 02, 2024 5:56 am:To counter, Minshew was the backup in Indy, and had very few reps with the starters before being thrust into the starter role. I'm rooting for AO for the reasons you and others have mentioned. Going by my "eyes" in watching the two though, Minshew seems to have better awareness in the pocket, and is a better mover. He will extend more plays when necessary it seems to me. If AO can improve that part of his game, he's got a shot IMO.signal wrote Thu May 02, 2024 5:40 am:Last year's stats really are not factoring into my thinking. never said ideal, I said your statement that he was not prepped in anyway was what I disagreed with. Your statement was that, not the notion of not ideal.signal wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:01 am:AO4 was a third string QB and was the emergency QB (not even placed on the starting squad)...you can disagree all you want, but that is not ideal circumstances for being prepped to start. My take is exactly the same. Only, I do think AO4 will win the competition. Not because I dislike Minshew but merely that I think AO4 will take a huge step forward in his development and give the Raiders a better chance at winning in 2024.chucker wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:06 am:Moe Moton always has reasonable takes. https://twitter.com/MoeMoton/status/1785778313136423217

i think it’s a toss up. Aidan’s last three out of 4 (KC) were very solid and he finished strong.352Raider » Thu May 02, 2024 8:37 am

Don't worry we will see both QBs start through out the season, while the staff figures out who if either will be the backup to who ever we bring in next off season. I'm not sure what you all were looking at to assess aoc as being good, he wasn't, he can throw a fast ball.... that's about it. And the best people have for gardner is that he is comparable to Trevor Lawrence? Raiders fans have to set the bar low I get it but let's not pretend our QB situation is good. I can hope that the raiders have enough weapons offensively that they can have a mediocre QB and make him look good sort of like SF does. From the sample sizes I have seen of the two options though, I would be shocked if Gardner isn't starting for season opener.
