Agreed, JJ struggled the 1st half of the season, of course all under McTrash. Not even 1 game getting 4 yards per touch. With the AP motivation, he was able to get over 100 yards a couple times, but it was a tough year. DId not remember any injury until the quad keeping him out the last 5 games. White proved that he can do it every week, small sample size, but was there to answer the bell.WolfRaider wrote Wed May 01, 2024 4:44 am:I didn’t think we ran the ball that well last year until White started playing more. Jacobs struggled massively. Going to be interesting to see how we run it with mainly power RBs, but most of our line suit zone more and Getsy and O-line coach both have zone backgrounds too. A lot of uncertainty and without a good run game we could be finished before the season starts.

Yeah, the McDaniels era was so bad that he's not even in the league this year in any capacity but was a HC for us...raiderjohn wrote Wed May 01, 2024 1:23 pm:Agreed, JJ struggled the 1st half of the season, of course all under McTrash. Just hope Tyree Wilson proves people wrong otherwise the McDaniels era set us back more than a year and a half.16 to 88 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:49 pm:Yeah, the McDaniels era was so bad that he's not even in the league this year in any capacity but was a HC for us...

I actually feel a bit sorry for Dave Ziegler being tied to McDaniels. I have a feeling that most of the bonehead decisions (Jimmy Picks) were those which Josh wanted and forced. Z should have stood up to him and who knows he might be still standing.16 to 88 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 8:49 pm:Yeah, the McDaniels era was so bad that he's not even in the league this year in any capacity but was a HC for us...

I would expect some scouts and positions like that to start changing now. The draft is over to TT will want to get some of his guys in there.signal wrote Thu May 02, 2024 4:35 am:I actually feel a bit sorry for Dave Ziegler being tied to McDaniels. I do get the strong impression that every decision made this offseason in free agency and the draft was made by Telesco. And that is a good thing. Yes, I am certain AP and the coaches had their input but it was Tom and his scouting department that made the decisions and that is the way it should be. We have seen in the last two regimes what can happen when a HC can steamroll their GM to get this or that player whether it be in the draft or free agency. The returns are usually ugly.
If anything, the last two regimes have shown us how it should not be done.

I think Ziegler probably could have been a good GM without being so closely tied to his head coach. But paying Jimmy G more than double what he'd have made elsewhere (IMO) may have been the desire of the head coach but it's the GM's job to just say no. It's one thing to get the coach the players he wants, and it's another thing to waste resources by overpaying them. AP loves Jacobs but Telesco let him get a big deal elsewhere because he's just not worth what it would cost to keep him.signal wrote Thu May 02, 2024 4:35 am:I actually feel a bit sorry for Dave Ziegler being tied to McDaniels. Yes, the Jacobs situation is the first sign to me that we have a GM that is in control and cannot be steamrolled by the HC.chucker wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:03 am:I think Ziegler probably could have been a good GM without being so closely tied to his head coach. Jimmy helped save us from that deal. Thanks Jimmy.signal wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:06 am:Yes, the Jacobs situation is the first sign to me that we have a GM that is in control and cannot be steamrolled by the HC.
I agree Z allowed himself to be steamrolled and yes, in the end it is his fault. But like you, do think that he could have been a good GM if he had not been tied to Josh...and had some damn backbone. And yes, the Jimmy Picks deal is one of the worst deals done in the past five years in free agency. It was a disaster.

Good point! Never really thought about that. Yes, Telesco does offer up an outside vantage point that Champ could not. And of course Telesco has mounds of experience doing the job and hopefully has a bit of a chip on his shoulder being cast off by a divisional rival.chucker wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:10 am:Jimmy helped save us from that deal. The McZ connection was the reason I really liked the Telesco hire despite thinking Champ Kelly deserves the opportunity. Champ and AP seemed to be so in lockstep after stepping into their interim roles that I don't think there would have been enough healthy disagreement on use of resources.

Mark Davis hired those guys. Maybe he has finally learned about hiring people or he finally got lucky. But I do credit him for eating the rest of McDaniels huge contract. I never liked McDaniels — there’s something about him that just isn’t likable .signal » Thu May 02, 2024 7:02 am
Hiring of McDaniels was on of the worst moves made by Mark and the firing of McDaniels remains one of his best. And yes, not sure what it was, but he was a highly unlikeable fuck.RunOverByHubbard wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:51 am:Mark Davis hired those guys. Man, hell naw. That would be the most unathletic LB corp in the league.BoKnows81 wrote Wed May 01, 2024 7:10 am:I wouldn't mind if it was Eichenberg and Spillane in on 1st & 2nd downs with Diablo coming in on 3rd downs honestly.

Instincts are more important at LB. Esp on 1st & 2nd down.Dark Horse wrote Thu May 02, 2024 8:33 am:Man, hell naw. That would be the most unathletic LB corp in the league.

Athleticism is not an luxury in this age of offense. And there is little chance Eichenberg gets any significant PT outside of ST and possible injury to starters.BoKnows81 wrote Thu May 02, 2024 8:37 am:Instincts are more important at LB. Esp on 1st & 2nd down.
