Agreed 1000%Jave wrote Wed May 01, 2024 12:01 pm:Why is it every time we get a great player there a bunch of people who can't wait to trade them for, well, usually its a draft pick who we have no idea will even turn out to be any good???? Why can't we just keep our good players?

Because we could trade him and in the trade we could get Adams. You know how we always wanted an Adams.Jave wrote Wed May 01, 2024 12:01 pm:Why is it every time we get a great player there a bunch of people who can't wait to trade them for, well, usually its a draft pick who we have no idea will even turn out to be any good???? Simple any imaginative draft pick that we haven't seen play in the NFL just might be Jesus in Cleats. However after the first couple of games played (pre-season not excluded) we will see they are not J.I.C. and some are even deemed bums/garbage with no hope. It really is a public cry out saying "I lack patience". It's that type of mentality.Jave wrote Wed May 01, 2024 12:01 pm:Why is it every time we get a great player there a bunch of people who can't wait to trade them for, well, usually its a draft pick who we have no idea will even turn out to be any good???? Can i buy some pot off you?Rabid Raider wrote Wed May 01, 2024 6:18 am:I would think we could get at least a mid round #1 pick. for Adams Then I would make an offer to Dallas for CeeDee Lamb. A #1 and Michael Mayer. Maybe an additional 2026 #2 pick.
Dallas probably wouldn't do it, but they do need salary relief and it looks like CeeDee is holding out.

You're paying Davante Adams $36 million a year in 2025 and 2026 unless he takes a paycut. Reworking it can spread it over more seasons but that's not a good plan unless he's actually worth the money. Whether you spread it over more years or not you still have to consider whether the money is well spent. Just because you can spread that giant TV over 24 months of payments, that doesn't mean you should pay more than it's worth.NoClapsPlease wrote Wed May 01, 2024 10:52 am:If his production hasn’t gone down, then we shouldn’t be asking him to take a pay cut.
I’m sure there’s a way his contract can be reworked without cutting his pay.
NoClapsPlease » Wed May 01, 2024 2:33 pm
Okay well since his pay is clearly inflated, I can see him working out a new deal to get top 3 to 5 WR pay which will have him at about 30 per year including incentives.chucker wrote Wed May 01, 2024 12:36 pm:You're paying Davante Adams $36 million a year in 2025 and 2026 unless he takes a paycut. They got options to keep him. Seems the contract was set up for us to either get out with 15 dead or restructure the deal after 2024. With no salary on the books, we can probably take a big hit for Adams in 2025.NoClapsPlease wrote Wed May 01, 2024 2:33 pm:Okay well since his pay is clearly inflated, I can see him working out a new deal to get top 3 to 5 WR pay which will have him at about 30 per year including incentives.
That was most likely the plan all along

Adams got outplayed by Meyers and he's a diva.Jave wrote Wed May 01, 2024 12:01 pm:Why is it every time we get a great player there a bunch of people who can't wait to trade them for, well, usually its a draft pick who we have no idea will even turn out to be any good???? People are just looking down the road. The OP's idea is well, not a good one, but at the same time it's always prudent to see what we could get for a player. For example in 2021 we could've gotten a 1 and 2 for Carr and possible a 1 or high 2 for Waller. At that time they still had good value, but we knew they weren't our future. Instead, we held onto them until they were all but worthless.Jave wrote Wed May 01, 2024 12:01 pm:Why is it every time we get a great player there a bunch of people who can't wait to trade them for, well, usually its a draft pick who we have no idea will even turn out to be any good???? how is he a diva? And no, Adams was the better receiver.mranquales wrote Wed May 01, 2024 3:07 pm:Adams got outplayed by Meyers and he's a diva.
I would have traded him for a 2nd with no hesitation and got Newton. Instant playoff-caliber defense.
devilraid316 » Wed May 01, 2024 3:35 pm
The smartest teams to trade him to if a trade was to happen would be to either Washington or NE, since they already drafted their quarterback of the future. That is the only way you would trade Adams away is to TRY and add enough draft capital to be in position to draft a quarterback of their own that can actually get the ball down the field, in next years draft.miles_j20 » Wed May 01, 2024 3:49 pm
New England would be a good option for trade. I can't recall any of their receivers and they just drafted a young QB that could use a receiver of Adams caliber.Dr Death » Wed May 01, 2024 5:00 pm

Adams suffers partly from guilty-by-association. Not like he was a “home grown” talent despite his Palo Alto roots. He cost us a 1st and 2nd round pick and was acquired to unlock our dogshit loser of a starting QB. On the bright side, we more than likely would have wasted the picks anyway, but you never know (hopium).Jave wrote Wed May 01, 2024 12:01 pm:Why is it every time we get a great player there a bunch of people who can't wait to trade them for, well, usually its a draft pick who we have no idea will even turn out to be any good???? Well said and all true. I would have been fine with trading him prior to the draft but now that the draft is behind us it's not time to consider a trade. Reevaluate prior to the trade deadline. I like Adams, even though I thought the cost to acquire him was too steep. Now he's played two years for us - and played well - and he's coming into the last year where his salary will feel reasonable. He'll be no cheaper than a FA for us next offseason because, with the massive salary he's slated to make, he has all the leverage in a renegotiation. This is, effectively, his last year under contract. What we decide at the trade deadline will depend on circumstances that we can't know today - maybe we're battling for the division title at that time? Maybe all has gone wrong and we're in the cellar?GoodTimeCharlie wrote Wed May 01, 2024 5:23 pm:Adams suffers partly from guilty-by-association. Now though he’s worth more than we could get for him. He’ll be a massive benefit to AO or Minshew (or both), and as someone said previously his veteran know-how is priceless for any new pass catchers like Bowers.
