That's a big 10-4. Have been pointing out this very thing ever since we signed him...chucker wrote Wed May 01, 2024 5:30 pm:Well said and all true. I would have been fine with trading him prior to the draft but now that the draft is behind us it's not time to consider a trade. Reevaluate prior to the trade deadline. I like Adams, even though I thought the cost to acquire him was too steep. Now he's played two years for us - and played well - and he's coming into the last year where his salary will feel reasonable. He'll be no cheaper than a FA for us next offseason because, with the massive salary he's slated to make, he has all the leverage in a renegotiation. This is, effectively, his last year under contract. What we decide at the trade deadline will depend on circumstances that we can't know today - maybe we're battling for the division title at that time? Maybe all has gone wrong and we're in the cellar?
I do love the idea of a technician like Adams working with young WRs so there's more value than his fantasy stats.

We make up for not having an elite franchise QB by having multiple elite offensive weapons to prop up the QBs we do have. With the addition of Bowers, a DC won’t just be able to focus on stopping Adams should Bowers make an immediate impact, which the chances are great that he will. With Adams, still playing at an elite HOF level, it makes it difficult to create a defensive game plan to stop both of them. The only chance a DC has at stopping this offense now is getting to the QB as fast as possible.Bram_Raider wrote Wed May 01, 2024 5:49 am:Adams has a cap hit of $25.35m this year.
But, if we trade him now, we take a hit of $7.85m this season and $15.70m next season.
Offer him for Paulson Adebo (FA in 2025) who is 6'1" & 198lbs + a 2nd (or even a 3rd) in 2025.
The Saints would then have Olave, Adams and Kamara for Carr and might go for it. The Panthers are still not a contender and the Saints are right with the Buccs and Falcons. Adams might push them over the top.
Then, I would contact the Bengals about Tee Higgins.
It is clear he wants a long-term contract and the Bengals want him to play on the franchise tag. Offer our 2nd in 2025, plus a conditional 4th in 2026 that could become a 3rd. With Adams $17.5m cash for 2024 we can offer Higgins a deal in the $23m a year range over 4 or 5 seasons. We have cap space too to tie up Adebo for 4 or 5 seasons too in the $18m range.
Now, a lot of people will automatically say NO.
But, teams know we cannot pay Adams cap in 2025, so get something for him now. I would have said try and get a 2nd in 2025 from the Jets, but they drafted a WR and paid for guys in free agency. The Saints make sense as they have Carr and Adams would move there.
Higgins is just 25 years old.
Adebo is just 24 years old, 25 as the season starts.

The issue is, I think we need him for offensive leadership. Without having a QB that can win us games we need him as the game changer.Attyla » Thu May 02, 2024 3:08 am

I would have traded him for a 2nd with no hesitation and got Newton. Instant playoff-caliber defense.

The Saints would be stupid to make that move. #1, they can't pay him either, #2, Adebo is an upcoming star. Trading him away + a pick for a player who is still good but on the downhill slope... not sure even Gruden would make that move. Wouldn't hurt to ask though.Dark Horse » Thu May 02, 2024 6:46 am
I think the bottom line is we aren't trading him this year in part because we don't have a dynamic QB who can make plays on their own and make others around them more productive. Also, until someone else like Browers establishes himself as the centerpiece of the office., Adams is still that guy. Third, Adams is a very smart football player which is an asset in that we are switching to a brand new offensive system. He is a little diva-ish and he is costly, but I think the costs outweigh the benefits in getting rid of him this year.heavyD » Thu May 02, 2024 6:51 am
As long as QB play isn’t a team strength it will be important to have a lot of top end skill players on offense to offset the lack of elite QB play. He may be slowing down a bit but he still put up over 1100 yards receiving last season which is impressive when you consider the dog shit play from Garropolo and a 4th round rookie QB thrown into the fire.signal » Thu May 02, 2024 6:56 am
Agree Jimmy Picks was dogshit last year. But given AO4 outplayed every rookie last year save one and under less than stellar circumstances, I think it unfair to characterize his play as dog shit, but hey everyone has their own take.heavyD wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:51 am:As long as QB play isn’t a team strength it will be important to have a lot of top end skill players on offense to offset the lack of elite QB play. By going 'all in" with the Carr-Adams connection Mark tried to win big but it failed like a guy at a Las Vegas blackjack table hitting on 13 and drawing a face card. I give him credit for trying but now the Raiders must pay the price of Adams salary handcuffing the team's roster.Attyla » Thu May 02, 2024 7:23 am
Why do you post? The Raiders have almost 22M in cap space right now. That is more than the majority of teams in the NFL. We have more in 2025 than the majority of teams as well. Same with 2026.Archaic wrote Thu May 02, 2024 7:07 am:By going 'all in" with the Carr-Adams connection Mark tried to win big but it failed like a guy at a Las Vegas blackjack table hitting on 13 and drawing a face card. We actually have even more cap space because we get another $24 million June 1 when Garoppolo's contract comes off the books. The reason for trading Adams isn't because of cap space this season, it's next season. If the offense is struggling at the trade deadline then he'll probably prefer to move on so you could trade him at that time or risk losing him and getting nothing back at the end of the season. That's a decision for a later day, and hopefully MinConnell is clicking with all the weapons and it's not really a decision at all by then.heavyD » Thu May 02, 2024 1:00 pm
Maybe my wording wasn’t great but I was insinuating that Garoppolo was dog shit and AOC was a 4th round rookie thrown into the fire so not ideal circumstances for a WR to put up big numbers.signal wrote Thu May 02, 2024 6:56 am:Agree Jimmy Picks was dogshit last year.
