Carr needs to be extended.LayneStaley » Tue Oct 19, 2021 10:07 pm
I still think he under throws a lot of deep balls that would be TDs.Opoponax50 » Tue Oct 19, 2021 10:12 pm
As others have said, it'll depend on what he's asking for (assuming he continues to play the way he did Sunday). If it's a cap friendly deal, then it's a no brainer. You sign him and keep adding better pieces because we'll be able to afford them. But if he wants to be paid in the $30 million+ range, then it would be time to consider things more carefully.NoClapsPlease wrote Tue Oct 19, 2021 9:56 pm:Carr needs to be extended.
I don’t know why the reset button is so popular on here. The last time we had an uncontested starter was Gannon - that was 17 years ago. Plugging in QBs didn’t work back then and it won’t now. Right now, you only replace Carr with an elite QB. That’s the reality right now. In my mind, he’s nearing elite status and it’s coming together for him. 7 years and countless play callers, it’s not a coincidence he’s turning it on in his 4th year under the same system.

Low 20's? He is currently making 25 a year.... We can't low ball the guy who has been loyal and one of the main reasons we have been kept in games. Dependant on performance, he should be paid anywhere between 30 to 38 million a year. Especially considering the fact that Wentz, Goff, Jimmy G, Tannenhill, and Cousins are currently making more than Carr. Just my two cents.Opoponax50 wrote Tue Oct 19, 2021 10:12 pm:As others have said, it'll depend on what he's asking for (assuming he continues to play the way he did Sunday). I'm sure that someone would give him that kind of money, but we've also seen what this team looks like when it's incomplete. But if we can manage to keep his cap hit in the low $20 million, it's an easy decision.

Not sure what interview it was but Carr stated that he has already been the highest paid QB in the league and isn’t looking for that again, he said he just wants to win. To me that says he knows if he is the highest paid qb in this market there isn’t going to be much left for anyone else. Maybe this comes from him seeing them give him a contract and trading Mack.Attyla » Wed Oct 20, 2021 4:17 am
some of you all are equating Christian with poor business acumen. He will have an opportunity at generational money if he continues to play like he did Sunday. He may give a home team discount, but make no mistake that he is going after market value. Remember, he has career goals after football and every dollar he makes will be in play for that career, so maxing out those dollars will be important. And remember, guys say a lot of things, but hanging onto every word they say can lead to disappointment. AB did not want to be a Raider, he just did not want to be a Steeler, and we bought the idea that he wanted to be a Raider hook line and sinker.chucker » Wed Oct 20, 2021 5:44 am
If you're extending Carr then it's going to be $40 million a year or more, unless his play drops off (which none of us want)... expecting him to sign for less is unrealistic. Dak Prescott got $40 million per in a soft market with covid uncertainty and a lower cap, coming off a major injury.Aqua » Wed Oct 20, 2021 5:47 am
Wentz , Goff, and Garrapolo benefitted when the Eagles , Rams , and 49ers jumped the gun by offering too big of a dollar contract, too long term, too soon. The Raiders already did that once with Carr and to do so again would be foolish.Dstaggs23 wrote Tue Oct 19, 2021 10:28 pm: Dependant on performance, he should be paid anywhere between 30 to 38 million a year. From reading earlier posts my understanding is that Carr is under contract for2022 season, and that 2023 is the season for which the Raiders could tag Carr as "franchise". If this is the case then the Raiders don't have to make a decision until the conclusion of the 2023 season, 2.5 years from now. So why not wait and see what happens with the Raiders team performance the next 1.5 to 2 years ? Hunger has a way of motivating players to produce their best performance.chucker wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 5:44 am:.
We still have the franchise tag if we want to push it a year - so just because we can choose not to extend him, does not mean we want to move on. It's also not necessarily cheaper to extend him than it is to wait..
chucker » Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:13 am
Sorry, that's what I meant..... we can have him play next season and still be certain we won't lose him because we have 1-2 tag years as well. I do think that if the organization is all onside that he's the guy going forward then this offseason is the logical time to extend. But at this point we don't know how the rest of the season plays out, and don't even know who the 2022 coaching staff is.Aqua wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:07 am:From reading earlier posts my understanding is that Carr is under contract for2022 season, and that 2023 is the season for which the Raiders could tag Carr as "franchise". there is no way in hell agents and QBs are going to sign short deals. A franchise QB is not going to put at risk the notion of injury on a 2 year deal. They are all going to want 5 years deals at minimum. With almost no NFL contracts guaranteed, getting the signing bonus and as much guaranteed money as possible requires you spread out the cash over a longer contract. It is good business for teams to secure a QB for longer so the money that is tied into the sign on bonus is spread over a longer period of time.Aqua » Wed Oct 20, 2021 7:10 am
Kirk Cousins recently signed a two year contract. And here are the current top salaries for QB's. Of this group most are horrible deals for the teams involved. It won't be good for the Raiders to give Carr another long term contract unless/until he actually leads the team to the Superbowl.Attyla wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:56 am:there is no way in hell agents and QBs are going to sign short deals. Gotta remember, a QB minimum deal in this market for a good QB is 30-40 mil, and most these guys want that number but also as much up front money as possible.

Carr is in the Goff to Ryan range & not a penny more there is no way unless we all of a sudden win a SB this year he should be getting 40 mil even then it is a risk of it being an outlier seasonAqua wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 7:10 am:Kirk Cousins recently signed a two year contract. 1 Patrick Mahomes $45 million
2 Josh Allen $43 million
3 Dak Prescott $40 million
4 Deshaun Watson $39 milllion
5 Russell Wilson $35 million
T-6 Aaron Rodgers $33.5 million
T-6 Jared Goff $33.5 million
8 Kirk Cousins $33 million
9 Carson Wentz $32 million
10 Matt Ryan $30 million

Yes, agreed. Remember the Cowboys assigned the franchise tag to Prescott. The Raiders can do that with Carr as well, so really Carr's current contract/obligation is 2.5 seasons to prove he can lead the Raiders to wins-playoffs-Superbowl etc... If he does not get it done there are other fish in the sea. Keeping options available is a good thing.CWood24 wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 7:16 am:Carr is in the Goff to Ryan range & not a penny more there is no way unless we all of a sudden win a SB this year he should be getting 40 mil even then it is a risk of it being an outlier season

so you cite the outlier to make your point? That is the going market for QBs these days pal, and teams have to spread out the guaranteed money so longer deals are the normAqua wrote Wed Oct 20, 2021 7:10 am:Kirk Cousins recently signed a two year contract.
