Everything is rumors and conjecture right now but it at the very least makes our offseason exciting as hell. I thought the benching would be the best news I would here about him but the possibility of trades is amazing. We only need one team to buy into “the Raiders are just being the Raiders”. Let’s all hope David Carrs tell all is believable enough for some GM/HC.HesterLayes wrote Tue Jan 03, 2023 12:58 pm:I’m surprised Del Rio signed off on the idea to Rivera

There are also ways to soften the blow to an acquiring team - like converting some future salary to a signing bonus prior to a trade and taking on the cap hit. Or like taking back a player that has some guaranteed money to offset the acquiring team's cap hit from Carr. It's not always as simple as a trade of a player for a pick.sdraider85 wrote Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:05 pm:I didn’t even think he would be tradeable with his contract but another sucker is born everyday. There are still tons of people who believe in Derek, and it only takes one that works for an NFL team.

Wouldn’t he have to agree to anything contract related or is that between the teams?chucker wrote Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:13 pm:There are also ways to soften the blow to an acquiring team - like converting some future salary to a signing bonus prior to a trade and taking on the cap hit. Every contract these days, other than really small deals, has language in it to allow the team to convert future salary to a signing bonus and all they have to do is notify the player. That's why the idea that players are "helping their team" by restructuring a deal is silly. The player wouldn't have been part of the decision, and he's just getting his money sooner.sdraider85 wrote Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:14 pm:Wouldn’t he have to agree to anything contract related or is that between the teams?

It was good enough to be rid of him. Eating the $5 million was a tiny price to pay. But now there's a realistic possibility that we could get a decently high draft pick for him?LESTERMAHONEY » Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:25 pm
What’s the first day we can cut carr? I say cut him and don’t risk a trade that can go bad.HesterLayes » Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:31 pm

I think the possibility of a trade that teams agreed to in principle has very little chance of going bad. The blowback against the team that backed out would be severe.LESTERMAHONEY wrote Tue Jan 03, 2023 1:25 pm:What’s the first day we can cut carr? I say cut him and don’t risk a trade that can go bad.

After nearly 10 years, it’s safe to say that Carr is “surface level” everything and internally…well…The Duke wrote Tue Jan 03, 2023 11:52 am:This is my thing with him: I think he's surface level egotistical enough to give off the perception that he can play anywhere. However, I feel internally he knows his own limitations and what he can and/or would want to handle.
NY/BOS are different level sports cities. I've watched many a star come to the Yankees and Red Sox and crumble under the bright lights of the field and media scrutiny that follows EVERY loss (especially as a QB or Pitcher).
I am not sure where his "best" spot is. Of supposed potential suitors: NO, Indy, Tenn. Places like those that would not be pressure filled, warmer climate and two of the three would offer some sense of familarity for him - DA and Downing.

I hope we have given Carrs agent permission to get on the phone with other teams who might be interested.Attyla » Tue Jan 03, 2023 2:35 pm
Zeigler needs to work the phones and make the deal and present it to Carr's agent, not the other way aroundsdraider85 wrote Tue Jan 03, 2023 2:30 pm:I hope we have given Carrs agent permission to get on the phone with other teams who might be interested.
