I don't attend many LSU or No. Carolina games -- but I did watch film. I should have stated that. Rolling eyes emoji here.BoKnows81 wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 11:51 am:So.... you haven't watched either of them play? Got it

Well, I would hope that the people giving opinions on here about college players actually, I don't know, watch college football and watch the players? While not basing their opinions and statements off write ups and draft rankings. That is what you initially stated your reason was for thinking Maye was the safer pick, was it not?RunOverByHubbard wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 11:52 am:I don't attend many LSU or No. Carolina games -- but I did watch film. Of the hundreds of players in this draft, how many at this site have actually seen them play whole games? We all watch the film/highlights. Isn't that obvious. We read profiles, read takes by "experts" and novices. I actually take the time to watch the videos that go over both strengths and weaknesses, not just highlights

Actually you can. If you have an evaluator that you have read for years and their takes tend to hold up, basing an opinion on a trusted source is very legitimate.BoKnows81 wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 11:51 am:So.... you haven't watched either of them play? Got it
Amd fwiw, I'm not saying I necessarily disagree with you but c'mon man, you can't make statements like that without watching the guys actually play.

No, that's called being a follower and not forming your own opinion. That's what's wrong with the world (and these boards).Attyla wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:17 pm:Actually you can. Clearly if you haven't followed a player all the way through college you are not allowed to have an opinion. My only question is if you followed a player since high school does your opinion negate an opinion of someone who followed them all through college? Pop Warner would be like a Royal Flush!Attyla wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:17 pm:Actually you can. We will have to disagree on that. Example: Telesco is the GM , he is going to make the call on our first pick. He hires scouts to watch game footage on players we are looking at. Telesco is also looking at pro players and frankly looking at next year's crop of potential players. He is also performing duties with the current players such as the OTA's we just started. He is also working the phones, sitting in on interviews with potential players. He has to trust that his scouts are doing their job because, and believe me I know this from inside knowledge, he does not have time to watch literally hours and hours of tape on every player we are considering. That is not following, that is managing all the aspects of the job and at the end of the day, he has to make that pick, not based on his opinion but as part of a collective opinion. Basing opinions on the shoulders of those more knowledgeable is actually brilliant.BoKnows81 wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 1:09 pm:No, that's called being a follower and not forming your own opinion. Well, then, I have to ask you and Dark Horse: have you read good draft profiles of Maye and Daniels, watched their film (and not the good highlights that make them look like a combination of Dan Marino and Michael Vick?), and read opinions about them by writers (and not hacks like us, even though sometimes our collective group of "writers" is just as good as those working for all these half-known websites)? I did and concluded that Maye appears to be a safer pick. So give me 20 whacks with a paddle out back.Attyla wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:17 pm:Actually you can. I have spent more time looking at Daniels and Penix to be honest. I have always thought getting into the top 3 was out of reach and based on reports on Daniels as a marginal 3rd overall pick that he was more likely than Maye falling out of the top 3. I do not spend any time with the draft advisory board as I see that as a draft promotion board and a tool for college guys to gauge draft availability tool and not an actual talent evaluation tool. Maye grades out as the second QB off the board on a vast majority of legit opinion rankings and I accept that the consensus may or may not be right but does establish value.RunOverByHubbard wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 4:38 pm:Well, then, I have to ask you and Dark Horse: have you read good draft profiles of Maye and Daniels, watched their film (and not the good highlights that make them look like a combination of Dan Marino and Michael Vick?), and read opinions about them by writers (and not hacks like us, even though sometimes our collective group of "writers" is just as good as those working for all these half-known websites)? I'll support that statement, but at the same time say that seeing a guy play can make a big difference. I wanted us to trade up for Herbert in the worst way because I'd watched a full 6 or 7 Oregon games that year (for some reason they were on all the time that season). The dude just had "It". He had a big arm, was mobile, and he loved to compete.Attyla wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:17 pm:Actually you can. I have never really thought that we would move up into the top three or even four. I think we will get a QB at 13 if we want one, and if they are all gone, we'll take a (hopefully) damn good CB or OL. I just look at stuff out of curiosity. I wondered why so many ranked Maye so high so I looked at him too after looking at the others first. Actually the least film I have looked at is McCarthy. I like Penix and like it says in ALL the profiles -- concerned about past serious injuries, but he stayed healthy this past season.Attyla wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 4:47 pm:I have spent more time looking at Daniels and Penix to be honest. Yeah I would hate if we got Nix, he does remind me of those type of players you mentioned.CWood24 wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 3:29 am:I’d say this false because if your putting Daniels & McCarthy in the 1st round mix then Nix & Penix have to be in there aswell as i’d say they have far better tape & are maybe look more naturally talented at the position
If Penix doesn't gave those injury concern you talking about a Top 5 pick just based off of his ability, he might be the most naturally talented of all the QB’s i’d go as far to say he is the best passer of them all
Nix might be after Williams & Maye the “safe” option if you can ever say a player is that, he give me Carr vibes where he always give you solid play but won’t give you that edge. I’m hoping i’m wrong but only if we draft him though if the Broncos draft him i hope he is a bust

Herbert has to be one of the great failures of the scouting community in recent memory. Not just that they were so lukewarm on him as a prospect. But also for how much weight the scouting world puts on “traits”…. They totally missed the 6’6” guy with a cannon arm and top notch athleticism.Opoponax50 wrote Wed Apr 17, 2024 5:13 pm:I'll support that statement, but at the same time say that seeing a guy play can make a big difference. Unfortunately the organization was still smitten with Carr (fuck!fuck!fuck!fuck!fuck!fuck!) so the move was likely never contemplated.
