If Fields had strengths he wouldn't be traded to the Steelers for a conditional 6th rounder in 2025. NFL GMs are not stupid.Sold My Soul wrote Mon Apr 22, 2024 7:16 pm:If the donks believe they have their QB now.....they can field offers to move down, or pair him with a stud WR...
Just adds another level of intrigue.
It's not just about drafting any QB.... He needs to come into a team where the OC draws a playbook based on the QB's ability...
Not try and jam him into a system.
My big question mark is our OC.....
He didn't run an offense based on Fields strengths.
We''ll learn early on if our OC is taking advantage of the QB's abilities.

He was the assistant gm but I still wonder how he feels about trading back to get picks in addition to having success with the last pick in the draft because he had a front row seat, no?DanKD wrote Mon Apr 22, 2024 9:51 pm:He did neither of those things. John Lynch did.

I’m not saying he’s not talented, he very obviously isDark Horse wrote Mon Apr 22, 2024 11:50 am:Again, it doesn't mean his talent wasn't there, and I mean there on film. How many people are looking at Toledo for CB play?

I guess I'm just of the opinion that combine stats are overvalued.Dark Horse wrote Tue Apr 23, 2024 5:58 am:Okay, and? There are reasons why some guys are late risers. If it's based largely on measurables alone,
it's more likely not to turn out well. But if the player has good tape and matches that with good measurables, it's usually a good thing. Mitchell is the latter.
I find it weird you are focusing solely on McKinstry. He didn't live up to the hype, or even measure up to the preseason hype and preseason hype doesn't trump performance. He is 5'11" after being billed at 6'1." Mitchell over Mckinstry isn't the least bit controversial.

I tend to be leery of "late risers" myself. Their body of work on film I think is more indicative of future success than combine scores, or guys who had a good day at the Senior Bowl. > 95% of my assessments would be game film if I were a scout. Example a WR who is shifty and a knack for getting open, is more valuable than a guy who shoots up boards because he ran a 4.3 IMO. Freddy B and Jerry Rice are great examples. Of course on the contrary is Cliff Branch, who had to be taught to run routes and catch... that one turned out pretty good for us.The Condor wrote Tue Apr 23, 2024 5:08 am:I’m not saying he’s not talented, he very obviously is
I’d say that his PFF grade and All-America selections would indicate that he was hardly an unknown in scouting circles, with a late first/second round projection based on his tape, before the combine.
Then he ran a 4.33 40 and performed well at the Senior Bowl, albeit not going against the really elite WR prospects, or competing against the other top college CB’s.
And shot up draft boards.
With regards to McKinstry, he was targeted less than 50% of times compared to the previous year (80 to 36 I believe), as teams avoided him, allowing only 16 completions, with 7 pass deflections. And it appears he may have been playing, and performed at his pro day, whilst injured with a foot fracture, and ran a 4.47 40.

And his stock dropped.
I don’t profess to “know” who will be a better pro out of Arnold, McKinstry and Mitchell; they’re all good players.
My point was that every year we see late risers, often following a blazing 40 time, and it leaves me a little sceptical that suddenly he’s clearly CB1 and a top 10-15 pick, and I’m not the only one;
